Melissa operates under a council-manager form of government. The Melissa City Council is comprised of the mayor and six council members.

The Council serves as the legislative body for Melissa. Its role is to adopt laws and policies for the City, with Council directives implemented by the City Manager and City staff.

The Assistant City Manager (ACM) will oversee an exciting and career-enriching portfolio of City departments in Melissa and will initially have several direct reports. Under the direction of the City Manager, the ACM will provide leadership and oversight to Development and Neighborhood Services, Code Enforcement, Public Works, and Recreation/Cultural Services.

Other departments may be assigned based on the strengths and experience of the respective candidate. Along with managing the overall operations of the assigned departments, the ACM will perform a variety of administrative duties and responsibilities involved in the development and coordination of City programs and boards and provide highly responsible managerial support to the City Manager.

The City of Melissa is seeking an experienced and leadership-minded ACM with a demonstrated track record of excellent work. The newly appointed ACM in the City of Melissa will play a pivotal role during an exciting period of the City's growth.

The selected candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, business, marketing, or a related field. A master's degree in public administration or a related field is highly desirable. A minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a municipal environment is required.

A valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver's license is required. Preferred qualifications include Credentialed status with the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) designation.

The target hiring range for this position is $140,000 - $150,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.
