Assistant City Manager

With a population of approximately 90,000, the City of Avondale is in the southwest valley of the metropolitan Phoenix area. Avondale prides itself as a vibrant, diverse, and friendly community, with safe and attractive neighborhoods and a close-knit historic core.

The Assistant City Manager is an experienced leader in local government who has a dedicated commitment to the quality of life for our residents while understanding that our staff is one of our most important resources in serving the community and executing our mission of "Making Lives Better". The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in business, public administration or other related field from an accredited college or university. A master's degree in public or business administration is preferred, but not required.

Must possess at least seven years of local government experience at the department director or higher level. Arizona municipal government experience desired. An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis.

Designation as an ICMA Credentialed Manager or Candidate is a plus. Avondale offers a highly competitive salary of $ $178,244 - $267,366 annually (effective July 2024), based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Avondale also offers an excellent benefits package and a four-day work week.
