Job Title: Assistant Chief Financial Officer

Location: Central Administration Building Department: Business Office

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Supervises: Accounting, Payroll, Purchasing, Accounts Payable and Data Support functions.

Terms of Employment:

Months Per Year 12

Full Time X Hours Per Week 40

Shift Part Time Hours Per Week

Nature and Scope of Job:

To provide accounting management leadership by coordinating and monitoring the Accounting Department and to assist the school district administration and staff with the overall governmental accounting process. The Assistant Chief Financial Officer must establish a good rapport with all individuals in the School District, and convey a cheerful, helpful, and customer focused attitude.

Job Functions:

Essential Functions:

1.Maintains and monitors the overall Governmental Accounting process used by the district daily to ensure that all practices used are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

2.Creates and presents financial reports monthly.

3.Balances journals and ledgers; tests and executes month-end and yearly closing to ensure timely distribution of reports.

4.Reviews District checking accounts to general ledger monthly.

5.Maintains an internal audit of account balances for possible over-expenditures and discrepancies monthly.

6.Coordinates yearly audit with assigned auditors and department personnel in order to allow for full disclosure and transparency.

7.Assists the Chief Financial Officer in the annual budget creation

8.Supervises office personnel.

9.Works within the core team of District Office administration personnel.



  1. Displays ethical and professional behavior in working with all stakeholders of the District.

  2. Protects confidentiality of records and information about staff, and uses discretion when sharing such information within legal confines.

  3. Adhers to Wyoming and Federal laws, rules, and regulations.

  4. Reviews and oversees the schedule of fixed assets and listing of accounts payable and other required work papers for the annual audit.

  5. Reviews monthly financial information for Sweetwater One Public School Foundation.

  6. Reviews and compiles monthly insurance cost summary and other reports.

  7. Performs any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.


Other Functions:

1.Establishes and monitors all District budgets monthly to guarantee no over-expenditures.

2.Analyzes financial programming for problems and requests additional programming.

3.Compiles financial information into reports for administration when requested.

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills:

1.Applied knowledge of Governmental Accounting policies and practices established by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

2.Applied knowledge of Generaly Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).

3.Knowledge of Federal and State Rules and Regulations regarding Federal Funds.

4.Knowledge of properly accounting for fixed assets and accounts payable.

5.Knowledge of computerized accounting software and Microsoft Office suite..

6.Ability to enunciate clearly, with public, in person, and over the phone.

7.Ability to communicate positively throughout the work day.

8.Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions.

9.Ability to think clearly, calculate accurately, and adhere to multiple deadlines.

Education, License, Certification or Formal Training:

Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Accounting and a current CPA certificate

Physical Demands

Strength and stamina to be able to remain in a seated or standing position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the work day with a minumum of fatigue or discomfort.

Visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer for a majority of each day with munimum fatigue or discomfort.

Strength to lift objects that weigh at least 50 pounds and move them more than 50 feet.

Environmental Demands

Be able to spend most of the time inside an educational and office setting with multiple interruptions possible throughout the workday.

Be able to tolerate noise up to 90 decibels and work in a non-air-conditioned building at times.
