The Assistant Cheer Coach is a full-time, 11-month, professional staff position within Student Services. This position is located at the Senatobia campus. The Assistant Cheer Coach is responsible for providing support to the Head Cheer Coach. This includes training student-athletes, choreographing routines, ensuring a safe practice environment, and promoting team spirit and sportsmanship. The position requires effective communication with student-athletes, other coaches, and college staff, and upholding the college's values and mission in all activities.
The Assistant Cheer Coach will report to the Head Coach of the Ranger Cheer program.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years coaching/participation experience
Minimum of an Associate's Degree; Bachelor's degree preferred
Strong knowledge of cheerleading techniques and safety practices
Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
ROLES, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and assist with practice sessions, workouts and coaching responsibilities assigned.
Coach at all practices: All-Girl and Small Coed and all football games
Teach and demonstrate proper techniques, stunts, and routines.
Provide feedback and guidance to improve team performance and individual skills.
Assist with Coaching both teams throughout the year in preparation for Home and Away football games as well as Nationals for Both All-Girl and Small Coed (Traditional and Gameday)
Coach at assigned Volleyball games and Basketball games
Help in selecting and preparing teams for competitions, games, and events.
Support the head coach in managing team dynamics and promoting a positive team culture.
Monitor the physical and mental well-being of student-athletes.
Responsible for uniform distribution and returning of the uniforms at the end of the season as well as other inventory items.
Exhibit comprehensive and functional knowledge of all applicable college, rules and regulations.
Scout for and recruit quality student-athletes as directed by the recruiting philosophy of the Head Coach.
Ensure adherence to all safety protocols during practices and events.
Willingness to travel extensively to Northwest Mississippi Community College events while promoting the college.
Respond to inquiries and maintain regular contact with prospective students through, personal visits and telecommunication avenues.
Work with student-athletes and monitor adherence to team rules and regulations concerning conduct, appearance, behavior and class attendance.
Promote and represent the cheer program at college events and in the community.
Participate in public relations activities with media, civic groups and booster clubs to maximize exposure for the teams and to assist in promotional/fundraising activities as directed by the Head Coach.
Willingness to chauffeur athletes and equipment to and from practice and/or games.
Assist with the coordination of team travel, equipment issue and check in, inventory, and general administrative duties assigned.
Will assist with Beauty Review and other Student activity events as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Knowledge Required for the Position
Ability to effectively work with various public and diverse populations.
Human relations skills of ordinary courtesy, understanding and ability to stimulate motivation, confidence and enthusiasm in students.
Willingness to enforce institutional policies and procedures.
Ability to coordinate with campus personnel to resolve problem conflicts.
A fundamental knowledge of cheerleading, gymnastic and dance techniques.
Valid Driver's License
