Position Title: Assistant Branch Manager

Reports to: Branch Manager

Direct Reports: Varies

ASSISTANT BRANCH MANAGER LEVELS: Assistant Branch Manager Levels I & II are determined by new or existing guidelines

SUMMARY: Assists the Branch Manager in performing a broad variety of customer service, sales, and may be asked to support lending activities to promote branch growth. Provides assistance in mentoring, developing, and supervising all branch staff. Actively participates in achieving sales and service goals and in maintaining operational excellence. Assists in securing and strengthening customer relationships including outbound calls, customer profiling activities, and reviewing customer needs. Supports the consumer and small business loan process. The Assistant Branch Manager assumes a management role in the Branch Manager's absence.


  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Minimum 3 years' sales and service experience in a retail or financial services business

  • Consumer/residential lending experience preferred

  • Supervisory experience

  • Good interpersonal communication and supervisory skills

  • Knowledge of Consumer and Small Business Lending Operations, Teller and CSR functions, bank products and services

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to adapt to change

  • Background in financial operating polices and procedures, banking regulations (state and federal), employee development and public relations preferred

  • Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.


  • Assists branch manager with overall operations in the Loan Support, Teller and CSR areas

  • Cross-trained in order to assist by operating a Teller window during heavy customer periods or staffing shortages as well as filling in as a CSR

  • Lends assistance to the Head Teller in compiling monthly reports on Teller Transactions and Teller Over and Short Reports and quarterly self-assessments

  • Assists in interviewing consumer and small business loan applicants and complete loan application process as needed

  • Stays abreast of all training including regulations as it applies to the lending and deposit areas as well as branch operations

  • Generates new relationships/new accounts, actively cross selling bank products and services through outbound calling

  • Updates and monitors sales activities using 360 View

  • Maintains and stays abreast of security policies and procedures

  • Assists with attaining internal performance objectives for branch sales, deposit & loan growth, and quality of audit reports

  • Motivates, trains and coaches employees to achieve branch goals. Assists with work schedules, employee performance reviews and when required, disciplines subordinates

  • Represents the financial institution to the community in activities which may include civic duties

and outside business development calling

  • Performs annual performance reviews along with an effective management plan consisting of goals for staff (if direct reports are applicable)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIESQSC * Maintains highest personal hygiene and professional appearance at all times. * Creates long-term goals and action plans for QSC. Ultimately responsible for the QSC level of the unit at all times. * Responsible for all facilities management, store equipment, including calibrations, repairs, preventive maintenance, and energy conservation. * Can manage opening/transition/closing shifts without supervision. * Maintains holding times, service speed, raw and finished product quality, cleanliness and sanitation. * Supervises preparation and positioning of people, equipment, and products for each shift. * Handles customer complaints. * Supervises delivery of raw products. * Follows up on maintenance person during shift. * Can perform all Team Member functions. SALES * Creates long-term unit objectives and action plans for sales. * Executes LSM activities and extensions of company promotions. * Defines trading area, competitors, and traffic generators. * Responsible for unit implementation of new products and procedures. * Displays correct and accurate POP materials. * Communicates sales building ideas with Marketing Department. * Follows up on procedures that support market promotions. PROFIT * Projects annual sales and profit plan. * Responsible for holding line items within budget. * Checks period unit reports for accuracy. * Reconciles period P & L with accounting. * Insures all security procedures are followed. * Controls labor, waste, and cash. PEOPLE * Responsible for staffing of Team Members and development of Shift Leaders. * Assists in management recruitment. * Evaluates potential manager candidates from Team Members. * Executes in store recruitment programs. * Interviews, hires, and trains Team Members. * Responsible for the retention of Team Members and management. * Ensures that labor laws are enforced. * Responsible for the overall Co-Manager and Team Member development programs. * Ensures that employee benefits are properly administered. * Conducts performance reviews with UD on Co-Managers and Team Members. * Sets goals for development of Co-managers and Team Members. * Personally trains Co-Managers. * Handles corrective action and/or terminations according to company policy. * Helps conduct Management Team and Team Member meetings. ADMINISTRATION * Verifies that all bank deposits have been received by the bank in the correct amount and on a timely basis. * Helps complete the managers' schedule. * Plans, schedules, and approves performance reviews. * Insures timely and thorough processing of all insurance claims. * Completes and posts the Team Members schedule on time utilizing Labor Scheduling process. * Responsible for all unit personnel files (POC's up-to-date, etc.). * Helps complete all store reports. * Responsible for safe contents. * Utilizes computerized build-to and is in charge of ordering. * Utilizes bin prediction level charts. * Completes all MIC paperwork. * Completes documentation and updates in store personnel files. * Completes weekly inventories. * Lists invoices on MRR. * Maintains store safety checklists. * Completes cash sheet, counts drawers, and assembles deposits. * Completes all required logs. * Completes daily, midweek, and EOW inventories. * Complies with all policies and procedures as directed in Security/Loss Prevention Guide and Human Resources Guide.
