JOB BRIEF
The Assistant Bakery Manager assists the Bakery Manager in directing and managing all functions and activities of Bakery Department to achieve sales and profit goals. The Assistant Bakery Manager is proficient in all aspects of every staff position in the department. They will train, observe, and enforce all company policies and procedures. This position will assume overall operation of the department in the absence of the department manager including ordering, training, scheduling, and other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES
Properly merchandise products in display cases and bakery shelves throughout the day. Price correctly according to company standards.
Offer product samples, answer product questions and offer assistance in finding or suggesting product selection.
Prepare special orders as requested by customers (i.e. special occasion cakes, party platters, etc.).
Assists the department manager in making sure the department is ready for business, well stocked, ad and key items are available.
Assists in ensuring that all production lists or tables are being used and followed as directed. Knows the proper temperatures to bake all varieties of products.
Monitors the processing of product throughout the day.
Maintain company's high standards of quality of product and product rotation.
Follow all inventory control procedures to maximize product freshness, quality, turnover, and availability for maximum sales.
Makes regular department inspections to ensure company standards are being met.
Observes the department for conditions that cause losses or shrink and takes actions to correct.
Assists the department manager in ensuring that efficiency procedures are being followed consistently, including check lists are being monitored, coached and enforced.
Direct and supervise the functions and activities of the Bakery Department in the absence of the Bakery Manager.
Assists the department manager in training employees on the proper procedure for performing department activities and individual job tasks.
Operates all equipment in the department. Assists in ensuring all equipment procedures are being followed.
Maintain a regular cleaning and sanitation program. Ensure that the department meets company standards for cleanliness.
Comply with all applicable laws regarding safety, health and packaging requirements.
Model customer service skills to set an example for department employees. Exceed customer expectations by providing superior service.
Delegate and use initiative, ingenuity and good judgment to act on opportunities and solve problems.
Secondary Job Duties:
Verify price checks for customers as needed.
Ensure all product labels, signs and prices are aligned with product.
Ensure sales and work area are swept clean, orderly and free from safety hazards; report hazards to management.
Ensure department associates adhere to company dress code standard (i.e. name tags, personal hygiene, etc.)
Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized mark downs or property defacement.
Present favorable impression in dress, personal hygiene and business attitude.
Other duties assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Successful experience in the bakery operation (i.e. merchandising, ordering, inventorying, and pricing).
Ability to display initiative and work with limited supervision.

Continuously- Standing on tile/concrete, walking on tile/concrete, manual dexterity, talking, seeing, hearing and smelling.

Occasionally-Loud noise, cluttered floor surface, contact with skin irritant, toxic exposure (see Material Safety Data Sheets), nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, and hazardous cleaning solutions.
Frequently-Twisting of back and neck, and slippery floor surface.
Continuously- hazardous equipment (mechanical moving parts), and contact with sharp objects.

Varied, irregular schedules.
Working environment involves inside store location, some exposure to heat.
