The office consists of nearly 30 distinct sections that advocate for consumers and victims of crime, assist the criminal justice community, provide legal counsel for state offices and agencies, and enforce certain state laws. What you'll do:
We are currently seeking an experienced, licensed attorney with a passion for public service, demonstrated commitment to protecting the unprotected, and an ability to work effectively with diverse groups for an Assistant Attorney General position in our Outside Counsel Section, Pension Counsel. The successful candidate will possess strong oral, written and verbal communication skills, be able to articulate complex legal matters, and exhibit creativity and innovation in their role as an assistant attorney general. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is 30 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH.
This position will work with the five (5) public pension funds in the state of Ohio. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Appears before public tribunals (e.g. civil or criminal trials in state and federal courts; administrative hearings; boards of commissions)
Develops legal policy
Researches, analyzes and interprets complex issues of law
Writes technical legal pleadings (e.g. briefs, affidavits, memoranda) and verbally presents legal opinions to technical or official personnel (e.g. drafts proposed states or regulations, negotiates settlements, and litigates difficult or unusual factual situations)
Attends board meetings for pension funds

Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio pursuant to Section 4705.01 of the Ohio Revised Code.
Preferred qualifications
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in trial advocacy with work mainly in the Courts of Franklin County, with occasional work in other Ohio courts.
Excellent writing skills for briefs, motions, other pleadings, and correspondence.
Unusual Working Conditions:
May require travel; may work varied hours.
Job skills: attorney/legal, attention to detail, collaboration, strategic thinking, verbal communication, and written communication.
