The Attorney General's Office is seeking a highly motivated attorney to join her team as an Assistant Attorney General in the Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division located within the Criminal Bureau.

The Criminal Bureau is staffed by a group of experienced prosecutors who partner with financial investigators, Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Attorney General's Office, and local, state, and federal investigative and enforcement agencies to proactively enforce the criminal laws of the Commonwealth.

The Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division focuses on investigations and prosecutions related to multiple types of insurance and unemployment fraud, including violations of M.G.L. c. 152, M.G.L. c. 151A, and M.G.L. c. 175H, and other illegal activity, such as larceny, conspiracy, and money laundering.

Position Summary: The Assistant Attorneys General in the Insurance & Unemployment Fraud Division are charged with leading and coordinating efforts of the prosecutorial team that typically includes a financial investigator, a state trooper, a victim/witness advocate, and support staff.

This position involves the investigation and prosecution of complex insurance and unemployment fraud cases. Cases will include workers' compensation fraud; unemployment tax and compensation fraud; motor vehicle insurance fraud; arson; false injury and property loss claims; fraud committed in the context of life, health, disability, and other types of insurance contracts; and claims committed by claimants, employers, medical providers, insurance industry insiders, and attorneys.

Primary Duties: Evaluate complaints and investigation files from referral sources; formulate investigative strategies; prepare search warrants; analyze documents; interview witnesses; conduct document and witness-intensive grand jury investigations; prepare immunity and/or cooperation agreements, as needed; make charging, venue, and plea-bargaining recommendations; and prosecute complex criminal cases in district and superior court. The Assistant Attorney General will work closely with outside agencies, including the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) and the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts (IFB).

Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions.

Salary: $78,586 to $117,879, based upon JD year and experience.

Position Requirements: Candidates should have at least two to five years of litigation experience, preferably in criminal law.

Demonstrated ability to handle a large, complex, white collar or criminal caseload desirable. Excellent analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills are essential. Jury trial experience strongly preferred. Grand Jury experience and experience in insurance/unemployment law also preferred.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment. This is a great opportunity to gain prosecution experience in challenging and complicated white-collar cases.

Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar. Must have access to reliable transportation, as travel is necessary to various courts and offices throughout the Commonwealth.
