Job Duties
The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is the Commonwealth's law firm and provides unique opportunities for public service. The Office seeks an attorney to serve as an advisor to and attorney for Commonwealth entities exploring, procuring, and administering transportation and infrastructure projects through the Public-Private Transportation Act, Public-Private Education Act, and other complex transactions. Virginia has some of the most esteemed P3 projects delivered in the country and anticipates additional exciting project opportunities in the future.
This attorney will serve as counsel for and an advisor to Commonwealth entities seeking to review, execute and administer projects under the Public-Private Transportation Act and Public-Private Education Act and other complex financing structures and project delivery methods. The attorney filling this position primarily will serve as counsel to agencies within the Transportation Secretariat but should anticipate working with any other Commonwealth entity seeking to employ a P3 approach to fulfilling public project needs.
The attorney will work with other assistant attorneys general as well as with outside counsel. This position is located in Richmond, but consideration can be given to working from the OAG's Fairfax or other offices. The position offers flexible hybrid work options.
As with all positions, other duties as necessary or appropriate may also be assigned. Some overnight travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
The attorney must have demonstrated experience with complex commercial transactions.
Experience with public-private procurements and public financing, such as bonds and TIFIA loans, is preferred.
Candidates should have experience advising executives regarding project financial terms and operational risk as well as the ability to communicate well with all levels of understanding regarding legal issues.
Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well within a small team of professionals.
The qualified individual must be admitted to or eligible for prompt admission to the Virginia State Bar.
