Assistant Athletic Trainer

Augustana University invites applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time, 12-month position within our Athletic Department responsible for assisting with cultivating a positive training environment that encourages team building, accountability, discipline, work ethic, and mentally and physically healthy student-athletes. This position is the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Football and the Lead Athletic Trainer for Men's & Women's Indoor Track as well as Baseball. Assistant Athletic Trainers work under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer and collaborate with other healthcare professionals, coaches, and athletic staff to ensure the best possible care for student-athletes. They also play a role in educating student-athletes about injury prevention and health-related issues, as well as providing emergency care when needed.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administrative Duties

  • Verification of new student-athletes NCAA medical eligibility requirements.

  • Assist with inventory and stocking of athletic training room supplies.

  • Clinical Preceptor to assigned Athletic Training students to include the following-

  • Academic Duties

  • Clinical Preceptor to AT students assigned to their rotation (Level 1 - 2)

  • Clinical Preceptor to AT students Level 3 Immersion Internship

  • End of semester Clinical Evaluations for AT students supervised (Exxat)

  • Clinical Duties

  • Assistant Athletic Trainer for Football. Lead Athletic Trainer for Men's & Women's Indoor Track as well as Baseball.

  • Attend practices and home events and some away event coverage required.

  • Coordinate medical referrals to team physicians and other healthcare professionals.

  • Effectively communicate and work in conjunction with Head Athletic Trainer, Team Physicians and Athletic Training Staff on treatment and implementing rehabilitation protocols for injured athletes as well as ensure that equipment is properly used and student-athletes are properly using the athletic training facilities.

  • This position will maintain medical records on student-athletes including physicals, insurance information, medical history information, rehabilitation reports, and medical referrals.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with coaches regarding injured student-athletes and medical policies and procedures and follow the NATA code of ethics, attend annual CEU courses / activities to maintain certification and remain current with all national and state certifications and licensure.

  • Required to comply with University, NSIC, and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Serve as a clinical preceptor to assigned Athletic Training students.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE accredited program.

  • Prior work experience as a certified athletic trainer at the college / university level.

  • Board of Certification (BOC) required for national licensure as a certified athletic trainer.

  • Member in good standing with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).

  • Member in good standing with the South Dakota Board of Medical Examiners (SDBMOE).

  • Certification and/or training in various treatment techniques, including blood flow restriction (BFR) therapy, graston techniques and cupping is preferred.
