Salary Range: $22.65 - $37.37 Hourly

                        $47,112.00 - $77,729.60 Annually

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday  8 am-5 pm with some potential variation

Job Overview

Responsible for assisting the Athletic/Aquatic Manager in planning, directing, and supervising athletic and aquatic activities withing the Recreation and Parks department. NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville. Service to the citizens during a disaster may result in the assignment of other duties, which will take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties as needed to meet the needs of the organization.

• Assists in planning, directing, and supervising all indoor and outdoor sports activities.

• Assists in short and long-range planning for the use of the soccer complex, other athletic facilities, and the Statesville Leisure Pool.

• Assists in organizing league teams, arranging schedules and tournaments, setting up necessary facilities, and attending scheduled athletic games.

• Inspects facilities and equipment for safety and reports problems to the proper supervisor.

• Supervises athletic facilities being used, notifying maintenance staff of maintenance and safety needs at athletic and aquatic facilities and parks.

• Assists in scheduling of scorekeepers, timers, and game officials, and maintaining accurate records for payment.

• Assists in planning, organizing, and promoting special athletic and aquatic events.

• Assists in overseeing fee rates for athletic leagues, the Senior Games, swimming pools, and rentals of the soccer complex.

• Assists in scheduling and conducting National Youth Sports Coaches Association clinics, while maintaining accurate records.

• Assists in preparing athletic and aquatic program budgets and recommends the purchase of equipment and supplies.

• Assists in creating event promotional materials such as PSA's, press releases, school presentations, etc.

• Assists in evaluating program effectiveness and recommends changes for improvement.

• Assists in the coordination of Iredell Senior Games.

• Functions as the Pool Manager during the summer, supervising and accounting for revenue collection at aquatic facility and concession areas.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience

• H.S. Diploma or GED and

• Four (4) years' experience working in Recreation & Parks or

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation & Parks Administration, Sports Management or a related field.  

Requirements

• Possession of a valid N.C. driver's license or ability to obtain within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.

• Certified Pool Operator certification, Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, & AED certifications, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• General knowledge of the principles, practices, and policies of recreation programs and activities.

• General knowledge of the methods and techniques used in directing recreation activities.

• General knowledge of a variety of sports, including the applicable rules and regulations and of the facilities needed for each sport and aquatic activity.

• General knowledge of principles, practices, methods of pool operation, chemistry, and water balance.

• General knowledge of principles, practices, and methods relating to water fitness and safety, life guarding, emergency response, diving, fundamentals of instruction and first aid.

• Ability to use a wide variety of computer technology, including the Internet.

• Ability to communicate tactfully, courteously, and firmly with the public.

• Ability to recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.

• Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, orally and written.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, and the public.

Job Related Physical Activity Requirements

This position involves medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Working Conditions

The employee is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold, high humidity, sun, water, dust, noise, vibrations, fumes, and hazards including exposure to chemicals, electrical currents, and atmospheric conditions. An employee may be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or pathogens.
