Assistant Athletic Trainer Priority Application Deadline: 10/11/2024. Position will remain open until filled. DEFINITION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, administer preventive treatment and rehabilitation to physical education students and athletes engaged in various intercollegiate sports; assure compliance with health and safety standards; oversee the issuance, maintenance and replacement of athletic injury protective gear and equipment for the college athletic program. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the safety and welfare of the student athletes at Taft College. This includes both physical and non-physical ailments at assigned activities. Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation. Possess knowledge of when it is imperative to call EMS or refer the student athlete to a physician. Maintain accurate and detailed electronic documentation of all injury and treatment encounters with student athletes. Compliance with the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Family Education Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA), ensuring the privacy of information for out student athletes. Attend assigned athletic contests and practices including nontraditional games as required in the CCCAA Constitution and Bylaws. Monitor environmental conditions for the safety of student athletes, staff and all those in attendance and make recommendations to the Athletic Director. Compliance with the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), the Central Valley Conference (CVC) and the Athletic Department rules and regulations. Travel with athletic teams to select competitions when necessary. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The above duties will be accomplished under general supervision individually or through delegation to student trainers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree with course work in physical education, athletic training, kinesiology or related field; and 1 year of athletic training experience; and Current, valid certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association; and CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire; and Eligibility to obtain a Class B drivers license. DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in related field; KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required. Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines. Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families. Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision. PERSONAL: Ability to independently plan and organize work assignments. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships both within the district and external. Detail oriented. Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students; and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities. WORKING CONDITIONS: Assignments are as needed to support Taft College athletics. Assignment is typically 40 hours per week and 12 months per year. May require evening, over-time, holiday or weekend hours throughout the year. Work is generally performed indoors. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Vision sufficient to read documents and computer terminal displays. Speech and hearing to communicate in person or by telephone. Manual dexterity sufficient to use a variety of office equipment, computer keyboards and to handle paper. Sit for long periods of time. Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds such as paper and reports. Ability to bend and reach to retrieve and file supplies, equipment and documents. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary range for the position is a Range 24 on the Classified Salary Schedule with a range of $27.86-$33.86 per hour. This is a full-time, 12-month position. Employees are eligible for membership in either CalPERS or CalSTRS retirement systems. HOURS & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.
