POSITION: ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER
REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR - SPORTS MEDICINE
NORMAL WORK AREA: SPORTSPLEX AND/OR STUDENT ACTIVITIES CENTER
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Demonstrate knowledge of basic computer skills, including word processing, PowerPoint, and
Excel, along with strong written and verbal communications skills. Possess the ability to be
creative and energetic while working well with post-secondary students and athletic
activities.
TRAINING TIME
Six months to one year to perform all job-related duties with minimum supervision.
DUTIES AND OTHER JOB RELATED ACTIVITIES
1.Oversees the medical care for student-athletes under their direct supervision, including
consultations with named team physicians.
2.Ensures that all student-athletes have completed all pre-participation documents including
physical examinations prior to practice and competition.
3.Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses to student athletes including prevention,
evaluation, management and rehabilitation.
4.Acts as a consultant to the head athletic trainer and head coach of those sports under their
supervision with regards to the physical well-being of their student-athletes.
5.Monitors the athletic insurance coverage for the student athletes in those sports under their
supervision through the athletic secretary.
6.Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation, self-care implementation and overall wellness
promotion.
7.Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions
or limitations.
8.Proper application of protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces.
9.Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians.
