Assistant Athletic Trainer

Description

Work in conjunction with the Head Athletic Trainer and Team Physician to coordinate and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for the college's 19 Division III intercollegiate sports. This is a 12-month position.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide athletic training services for the College's athletic department, included but not limited to prevention, recognition, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries, educational programs, and counseling for students.

  • Provide athletic training services including attendance at scheduled team practices, as well as home and away competitions as necessary.

  • Possible football practice and game coverage dependent upon experience.

  • Requires frequent evening and weekend hours; may also necessitate early morning hours.

  • Assist in staffing and the day-to-day operations of the athletic training facilities.

  • Consult with Team Physician(s) for guidance on the treatment of injured student-athletes, and report on their progress. Serve as a liaison for student-athletes between physicians, sport coaches, athletes, parents, and other health care providers as needed.

  • Maintain accurate medical records on all injuries, treatment, rehabilitation and physician referrals.

  • Work in conjunction with the Head Athletic Trainer and coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.

  • Understanding of NCAA medical guidance and make appropriate adjustments as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Ability to work 8+ hours per day as needed.

  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel with teams when necessary. Ability to travel to away contests, including overnight trips.

  • Ability to understand and enforce safety procedures and perform moderate physical activity.

  • Required handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day.

  • Ability to act in an emergency, including possible life saving measures such as CPR, c-spine immobilization.

  • Ability to assist athlete removal from playing service (First Aid lifts and carries).

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Requires exposure of outdoor elements and the ability to tolerate extreme weather conditions.

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Possess and maintains Athletic Training certification through the Board of Certification (BOC) and the New York State Department of Education (NYSED)

  • Current certification in CPR/AED for the professional rescuer or equivalent

  • Valid driver's license

Compensation: $48,000 - $50,000
