The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides onsite care and management of varsity student-athletes' injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, rehabilitation and event coverage. In addition to communicating with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of varsity student-athletes, the assistant athletic trainer maintains appropriate medical records. The assistant athletic trainers maintain the cleanliness of the athletic training room, supervises interns and student staff and completes other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides onsite care and management of varsity student-athletes' injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation. 30%

  • Provides coverage for varsity athletics contests and practices, both at home and requiring travel, as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. 20%

  • Communicates with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of varsity student-athletes. 15%

  • Maintains appropriate medical records, including pre-participation physicals, injury and rehabilitation documentation, outreach clearance forms, and insurance information. 15%

  • Assists in the daily maintenance of the athletic training room. 10%

  • Supervises interns and student staff. 5%

  • Completes administrative and other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. 5%

Educations & Requirements:

  • B.A./B.S. required. M.A./M.S. preferred.

  • 1-3 years' experience required (graduate assistantship experience will be considered).

Required:

NATABOC (National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification) National Certification; Licensed Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (or eligible); CPR, AED, and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer Certification.

Additional Information:

  • Operates in gymnasium, fields and courts and may operate in varied weather conditions.

  • General open office and campus environment.

  • Position involves sitting, movement and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds in training situations.

  • Frequent travel and early morning/evening/weekend/holiday work is required.

  • As a member of the sports medicine staff, onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses for 375 varsity student-athletes.

  • This position requires a background check.
