Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Director/Retail. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director for Equipment and Brand Management, this position assists with oversight of all aspects of the Athletic Department retail outlets, including locations within the Convocation Center, Recreation, Yordon Center, and any kiosk/remote setups. This position requires days, evening and weekend work hours.

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Equipment and Brand Management, this position assists with oversight of all aspects of the Athletic Department retail outlets, including locations within the Convocation Center, Recreation, Yordon Center, and any kiosk/remote setups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Retail Oversight
Oversight of revenue generation through online retail sales, in-house retail shop(s), and special events including NIU Athletics and Recreation equipment surplus public sales.
Duties include but are not limited to: oversight of daily reading of registers, opening and closing procedures, merchandise displays setup, day-to-day operations of retail location(s), pricing and tagging of merchandise, safety awareness within store location(s), traffic flow, and initiatives to drive sales and profitability through consumer awareness and satisfaction and special promotions/advertising events.
Inventory
Maintain sales inventory and record keeping for auditing purposes as regulated by both state and university policies and procedures.
Develops and responds to correspondence and drafts policies for retail sections as required.

Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)
Associate degree in any field or concentration including general studies.
Two (2) years (24 months) of experience in a retail environment.
One (1) year (12 months) of supervisory experience in a retail environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Skill in active listening
Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
Ability to supervise, motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.

Minimum one (1) year of collegiate equipment or retail manager experience.
