The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Athletics welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Director of Student Athlete Success

Salary Range

$60,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

Advise current and prospective student-athletes concerning academic requirements and progress, identify at-risk student-athletes and coordinate resources such as tutors, proctors, study table, and other campus resources to ensure that UT Permian Basin is providing the best possible help for that student-athletes to reach their academic goals. Serve as an advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and be the liaison between the student-athletes and athletic administration in terms of the student-athlete experience.

Connect student-athletes to campus and community resources for Life-Skills initiatives such as financial literacy, resume writing, and career services. Works with university stakeholders regarding academic advisement and student-athlete success related activities and oversees academic progress per university, conference and NCAA rules.

1.Develop, implement and evaluate a program of academic support services for all student-athletes, including but not limited to; coordinating tutoring and proctored services, assist with orientation, registration and advisement of student-athletes, conduct degree audit and checks.

2.Develop and maintain a program of academic recognition and reporting for all student-athletes.

3.Develop and maintain a program to identify, monitor, and provide support for at-risk student-athletes.

4.Select, train, and evaluate all tutors within the Athletics Department.

5.Access and recommend to student-athletes the use of campus and community resources.

6.Serve as an advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Develop and implement Life Skills programs using campus and community resources which foster growth and responsibility in student-athletes.

7.Assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes through transcript evaluation for practice, competition, and aid.

8.Maintain organized files and records to document academic progress. Coordinate student-athlete progress-toward-degree while working with various academic departments, Registrar's Office, FAR, and individual student-athletes.

9.Maintain a thorough knowledge of applicable NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and University rules and regulations as they relate to student-athlete success. Participate in the continual development and enforcement of department policies and procedures such as the Athletic Department Policy and Procedures Manual, Athletic Compliance Manual, and Student-Athlete Handbook.



  1. Develop and implement a policy manual for the Student-Athlete Success Office, including but not limited to policies for student-athlete study hall, computer use and/or laptop checkout, and all staff members and student workers supervised.

2.Two or more years of experience in advising/mentoring within Athletics, and/or higher education.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1.Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2.Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3.Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4.Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5.Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
