Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Regulatory Affairs and Recreation, the Assistant AD for Compliance will work to educate, monitor, and report on all activities pertaining to NCAA, Ivy League and Dartmouth College rules and regulations governing varsity intercollegiate athletics. The athletics compliance office at Dartmouth College is committed to being personable, professional, and problem solvers, serving all constituents of our athletics department; coaches, student-athletes, staff, families, and supporters. With 35 varsity sports and 1000 student-athletes, the athletics compliance staff works collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, sharing all responsibilities of the compliance office with an emphasis on cultivating and maintaining positive working relationships with all constituents.

Description Required Qualifications

  • Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Two years of experience working with NCAA compliance.

  • Experience with online NCAA applications such as LSDBi and RSRO.

  • Working knowledge of database management systems and various software tools, including Microsoft Office.

  • Foundational knowledge of NCAA bylaws 10-17.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Comprehensive reading and analytical thinking skills.

  • Familiarity researching rules interpretations and communicating the legislation's proper application.

  • Ability to thoroughly investigate and collect information necessary for decisive decision-making.

  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet various deadlines while managing multiple tasks and assignments.

  • Capable of cultivating and maintaining positive working relationships with student-athletes, coaches and staff.

  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • Experience in a Division I athletics program.

Key Accountabilities

Description

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Supervises the Compliance Coordinator in addition to cultivating interns/externs.

  • Represent and attend various professional development meetings and seminars on behalf of Dartmouth Athletics Compliance or DCARD. Including but not limited to: NCAA Regional Rules Seminars, Ivy League Compliance Meetings, NAAC Convention, Dartmouth College events and programs.

Percentage Of Time 15% Description

COMPLIANCE EDUCATION

  • Develop, Manage and executes the 12-month comprehensive education program for DCARD including but not limited to student-athlete meetings, DCARD unit meetings, coach meetings, new coach orientation, etc.

  • Provides interpretive guidance, analysis and direction on a wide range of issues relating to compliance with NCAA and Ivy League regulations.

  • Takes lead in new staff and coach compliance onboarding and education of all compliance related software systems.

COMPLIANCE MONITORING

  • NCAA Bylaw 11 (Personnel)

  • Oversees and executes Annual NCAA Recruiting Education for Coaches and Staff.

  • NCAA Bylaw 13 (Recruiting)

  • Work in cooperation with the Associate AD for Admissions and sport programs to permissibly publicize the commitment of prospective student-athletes.

  • Work in with cooperation with the DCARD Camps & Clinics committee.

  • NCAA Bylaws 12 (Amateurism and Athletics Eligibility), 14 (Academic Eligibility) & Applicable Ivy League Regulations

  • Maintain, disseminate, and monitor annual NCAA and Ivy League compliance paperwork for all varsity student-athletes.

  • INITIAL ELIGIBILITY: Monitors and verifies initial eligibility certification of all first-year student-athletes of NCAA sports through the NCAA eligibility center.

  • TRANSFER ELIGIBILITY: Execute and monitor all incoming and outgoing transfer tracers and all NCAA Transfer Portal activity. Including proactive communication with coaching staffs and Associate AD for Admissions on potential incoming transfer requirements.

  • CONTINUING ELIGIBILITY: Execute the institutional eligibility certification process and serve as a member of the Eligibility Certification Team that executes all academic certifications at the beginning of the year and between terms.

  • ELIGBILITY WAIVERS & VIOLATIONS:Serve as a lead staff member for all eligibility waivers and violations. Including but not limited to Ivy League 5th Year Waivers, NCAA Initial Eligibility Waivers, NCAA Progress-Toward-Degree Waiver, NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Waivers, Medical Hardship Waivers, Level III Violations Reports etc.

  • NCAA REPORTING: Execute the annual submission of institution NCAA APP/APR information, prepares the annual NCAA sports sponsorship report, and all necessary Ivy League annual reports.

  • SQUAD LISTS & ROSTER MANAGEMENT: Responsible for maintaining the roster management of all varsity sports, including the certification of tryouts, walk-ons and male practice players in addition to addition/deletion forms. Ensure the accuracy and execution of all Squad Lists prior to competition. Participate in the department wide roster management strategy meeting.

EVENT MANAGEMENT

  • Serve as on-site event manager for numerous varsity home contests, including many during non-traditional business hours such as weeknights and weekends.

  • Greet officials, show to locker room, and ensure that assignments are correct for proper payment. Greet visiting team coach, show team to locker room, and be of any assistance.

  • Ensure proper facility and equipment set-up for events. Coordinate with event workers to ensure that their responsibilities are clear and duties are being performed properly.

  • Assist fans with any issues, concerns, or questions.

  • Handle any emergencies on-site (injury on field, weather issue), assist with crowd control (act as a liaison with Dartmouth Safety and Security and Hanover Police, when applicable) and troubleshoot.

  • Participates in the coordination, organization, and implementation of athletic tournaments as well as Ivy, ECAC and NCAA post-season championships.
