Job Summary

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the College of Health Sciences (CHS) at the University of Kentucky is currently accepting applications for a full-time 11-month appointment, tenure-eligible faculty member at a rank determined by qualifications in the Regular Title Series to begin employment at the Lexington campus by July 2024 or January 2025. Our well-established and nationally respected program offers a Master's and Bachelor's degree in CSD as well as a graduate certificate in telehealth. We admit approximately 30-36 graduate and 55 undergraduate students annually. The graduate program is externally accredited by the CAA through 2029.

Primary duties of this position include advancing a personal research agenda that enhances the Department and College, teaching in the content areas related to their expertise, building, and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external constituents, and mentoring students in the graduate and undergraduate program. Faculty may also be active in the CHS Rehabilitation and Health Sciences PhD Program, a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional Ph.D. program with faculty and students from disciplines such as Athletic Training & Clinical Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology. The distribution of effort will be approximately 30-50% scholarship/research, 30%-40% instruction, and 10% service.

Required Qualifications:

1.Terminal academic doctoral degree (i.e., PhD or similar terminal degree) in a relevant field

2.ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology or clinically-relevant research and teaching/mentoring experience in one of the preferred content areas specified below.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.Expertise in one or more of the following content areas: cognitive-communication deficits (e.g., traumatic brain injury, dementia, and other neurodegenerative disorders), motor speech, and/or research design.

2.Record of scholarly work, including original research with the potential for extramural funding. Translational and/or implementation-based clinical research work is strongly preferred.

3.Demonstrated excellence in teaching with the potential for course management and design.

4.Current speech-language pathology license in Kentucky or eligibility for licensure in the state.

5.Persons with a history of interacting effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse populations, including those in rural areas.

About the CSD Program

The CSD program at the University of Kentucky has offered undergraduate and master's degrees in communication sciences and disorders for over 60 years. The qualified candidate will join an outstanding academic faculty devoted to teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.

We currently have 10 tenure track faculty, three clinical faculty (non-tenure track), two professional staff, and three outstanding administrative support personnel who support our work. Along with teaching, most faculty and professional staff are engaged in active clinical practice and research. Our faculty serve with distinction as many are recipients of national, regional, and university awards for teaching, leadership, and service.

Our faculty are funded at the state and national levels including NIH, DOE, and HRSA awards. Our diverse research portfolio places a high value on translational and interdisciplinary science. The College of Health Sciences is home to state-of-the-art research laboratories (wet & dry), and maintains strong collaborative ties with colleagues across campus.
