The Graduate Center has launched an Initiative for the Theoretical Sciences (ITS) with the goal of building a multidisciplinary community of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and visitors, all united by their interest in the mathematical description of nature. We are seeking an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor who will help form the core of this community.

It is expected that the primary appointment will be made through the Ph.D. Program in Physics but affiliations with Chemistry, Biology, or other programs may be arranged as appropriate. The Graduate Center prefer to make the appointment at a senior level (Associate Professor and above). The faculty member will play a crucial role in the further development of ITS, across the full range of intellectual opportunities for theory in the natural sciences.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

A preferred candidate should have:

  • An outstanding record of external funding.

  • Strong leadership skills to organize a research group.

  • Previous research in the traditions of theoretical physics, but may have an interest that extends across conventional disciplinary boundaries.

  • Ability to demonstrate an outstanding record of independent research accomplishment and creativity, as well as an interest in mentoring and community building.

The GC seeks an Assistant Program Officer in the Ph.D. Program in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences who will report to the Executive Officer of the Program. As the Assistant Program Officer, you will be responsible for the following program activities: (1) Preparation of forms for major examinations and student status including leave of absence, level changes, withdrawal, etc.; (2) Coordination and scheduling of First, Second, and Final Examinations; (3) Collection of information and editing departmental newsletter and other documents; (4) Preparation of forms and documents for faculty appointments; and (5) Dissemination of information to faculty, students, and alumni. Other duties include but are not limited to: * Serves as the Administrator of the Program and as the Assistant to the Executive Officer. * Serves as a resource for applicants, students, and faculty regarding policies and procedures of the Ph.D. Program in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and the GC. * Serves as a liaison for faculty, students, applicants, to various college offices as well as doctoral faculty at other CUNY colleges and research laboratories outside of CUNY. * Manages office records including faculty files and student data; prepares periodic reports for various offices at the GC and government agencies; generates and maintains related databases as needed. * Collects and maintains student and faculty data, admission records, registration information, leaves of absence, withdrawals, course requirement, major program examinations, advancement to candidacy, and time limits for completion of the degree; assists with annual reports of student and faculty achievements (e.g., for ASHA, for the Provost's Office, etc.). * Assists in planning course schedules and committee meetings, and the Program's colloquia, workshops, lectures, and other events; responsible for room reservations for meetings and events. * Assists with the Program's fundraising activities. * Maintains and updates the Program's website; assists in applicant recruitment including the maintenance and updating of the Program's social media pages. * Maintains budget records; manages supplies; prepares travel reimbursement. * Performs other duties as assigned.
