We are currently recruiting for a hands-on leader with the ability to oversee the daily operations of multiple program areas to join our Business and Professions Division as their Assistant Administrator Centralized Investigations and Audits Unit

Our Business and Professions Division employs nearly 300 staff who manage 42 professional business licensing programs and regulate more than 200,000 licensees and 30,000 business licensees. The division also manages several statewide programs including the Uniform Commercial Code, Firearms Database, Combative Sports, and Prorate and Fuel Tax Services.

As a contributing member to the division's leadership team, you will manage the licensing and regulatory activities to ensure licensees meet minimum requirements. Relying heavily on your leadership abilities you will provide leadership and direction to program staff and supervisors, while partnering with professions to reduce risk to consumers and remove barriers to licensure. Your ability to communicate complex interpretation of laws, rules, trends and policy risks to the legislature, work groups, attorneys, and the public will be key as you and your team provides regulatory oversight of over 2,224,995 combined program licensees, and management of 42 programs.

Some of what you will do:

  • Manage the licensing and regulatory activities to ensure licensees meet minimum requirements for licensure and follow established business and professional standards described in law.

  • Develop and implement strategic and tactical planning and process improvements.

  • Ensure section staff are provided with needed tools and resources to include coaching and developing staff skills, knowledge, and abilities, and establishes staff performance standards and expectations.

  • Develop and maintain cooperative relations with DOL staff, business sector and local, state, and federal officials.

  • Recommend, implement, interpret, and influences laws, administrative rules, policies, and procedures relating to statewide professional licensing, audit, investigation, and compliance programs.

What you will bring to the position (Required):

  • Demonstrated managerial experience in leading programs or organizational units.

  • Demonstrated experience in the development, interpretation and application of policies or procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability in the following:

  • The application of leadership skills and change management principles.

  • Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

  • Develop and implement holistic, creative, and strategic ideas and initiatives.

  • Lead, develop, and support a large customer/public service organization.

  • Maintain effective communications with all levels within the organization including the ability to deliver complex oral and written presentations.

Experience can be gained concurrently.

Up to four (4) years of relevant education may substitute year for year for experience.

(Associates degree = 2 years Bachelor's degree = 4 years)

What may help set you apart (Preferred): 

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or another related field.

  • Experience working in state licensing and regulation.

  • Experience working with state government budget and policy..

  • Experience in process improvement, quality assurance and project management.

  • Experience working with state legislative and rulemaking processes.

  • Experience interpreting and applying government laws, rules, and policies.
