Marc Waring Ventures, the company behind the small business resource website, is seeking a full-time Assignment Editor to join our editorial team.

Recently named to the Inc. 500 list of Americas fastest-growing private companies, is read by over 1.5 Million small business owners and managers each month. We are a profitable, NYC-based startup with more than 50 full-time US-based staff, with headquarters across the street from Grand Central.

The Position

The Assignment Editor will map out upcoming article assignment runways for our team of 25-plus writers (and growing). Our articles include buyers guides, reviews, how to guides and tip lists covering topics on a range of small business-related issues, including software and technology, eCommerce, retail, real estate, marketing, sales, and human resources.

Our assignment calendar is driven by a combination of editorial relevance, search engine optimization, and affiliate partner planning. The right candidate will have experience working with all three of those elements in a content operation, and a strong comfort using digital marketing and analytics tools.

This role, and our offer a unique the right candidate looking to advance with a digital content operation thats expanding while others contract. Over the last four years, our business has grown from two partners working out of coffee shops to over 70 employees located across the globe.

We are profitable and have a proven revenue model, and we offer the chance to expand your skills by working with our business development and marketing teams.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Building aggressive content plans- Work with our Chief Content Officer and editors to develop quarterly and annual content plans to that expand our coverage into new areas.

  • Finding and growing our audience- Working with our marketing/SEO team to identify the right audience for our content and make sure our team is writing articles that reach the audiences who are most impacted.

  • Generating revenue- Coordinate with our business development team to utilize the resources of our affiliate partner network to build great assignment slates.

Qualifications for success:

  • You have experience working with digital marketing and analytics tools including Google Analytics, AdWords, Ahrefs, and more, and you know how to apply that knowledge to content planning and business demands.

THE POSITION We are looking for a keen-eyed fact checker first and foremost, someone who doesn't mind getting into the nitty gritty of personal finance to make sure that every bit of text we're publishing — whether it's in an article, a survey, a study or a video — is factual. The main responsibility of a fact checker is to be the last line of defense against any errors in our articles. You're looking for inaccuracies and instilling trust in our readers by ensuring a bulletproof product. You don't have to be an expert of the facts in our stories themselves but you have the tools and know how to verify them. Secondly, we also need this person to make sure everything goes out typo-free and in line with the MagnifyMoney/LendingTree editorial style guide (which closely follows AP style). RESPONSIBILITIES: Fact check and copy edit all content for MagnifyMoney and LendingTree, including video, graphics, special reports, and written stories. FACT-CHECKING * Fact check everything from company names and source titles to mathematical calculations and nitty gritty details in analyses, such as our quarterly reports on credit card and auto loan debt in the U.S. * You'll be tasked with fact checking a wide variety of content, including: * 4,000-7,000-word guides on broad personal finance topics (how to get a mortgage; best personal loans) * Reviews and lengthy round-ups of of deposit account products (CDs, savings accounts) where you'll have to verify that all rates and terms mentioned are factual. * Credit card reviews, making sure all rates and terms mention are factual. * 2,500-word explainers on a range of personal finance questions * Breaking news and feature articles written by our reporters * Studies and surveys written by our research team * Short text-on-screen videos * When a writer makes a calculation, you'll double check their math. * If stories do not have sufficient sourcing, you'll communicate with writers to be sure they properly support the information in their stories and double check those sources to be sure everything is accurate as written. * When the team receives infographics, you will double check the text to be sure it matches the original source. * Must be able to work well with a team of 30+ freelance writers (remotely) and full-time reporters and editors (in office) when necessary to verify facts.
