Job Overview

The responsibility of the Asset Protection Investigator (API) is to support Asset Protection Management in the implementation and execution of all necessary asset protection programs as directed. This includes executing the internal investigations program, components of shortage control and safety programs. The API is responsible to impact the reduction of inventory and controllable losses. The API is responsible to conduct and resolve quality internal investigations utilizing all tools and resources provided in accordance with all company policies and procedures as it pertains to internal investigations, confidentiality, and record retention.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct complex investigations into possible theft, fraud, and Company policy violations through exception reporting, trend analysis and CCTV.

  • Conduct investigative interviews.

  • Maintain detailed records of all findings, results, and data related to investigations.

  • Presentation of completed investigations to Asset Protection Executives.

  • Monitor facility compliance to Loss Prevention standards.

  • Responsible for internal case management, including initiation, investigation, and timely conclusion of internal investigations.

  • Support Store investigations when appropriate.

  • Effectively present data for prosecution and/or business partners.

  • Establish business partnerships with facility leadership, network Asset Protection Executives and Investigators to effectively accomplish individual and team goals.

  • Training and development of staff to achieve desired performance.

  • Utilize all investigative and analytical tools to analyze trends and patterns.

  • Implement and execute shrink reduction strategies.

  • Make recommendations to Facility and Asset Protection Executives for the improvement of the security conditions in the facility.

  • Partner with law enforcement and Company legal personnel when necessary.

  • Organize evidence and materials for use in criminal cases and testify in court of law when necessary.

  • Strict adherence to Company policies, procedures, initiatives, and maintain high integrity and confidentiality standards.

  • Any other function management deems essential.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelors degree from a 4 year college or university.

  • Minimum of 2+ years Asset Protection experience in distribution center or stores environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills used to interact with colleagues and people leaders.

  • Must be a team player and can deliver constructive feedback.

  • Ability to balance competing priorities.

  • Strong follow-up skills and sense of urgency.

  • Highly organized and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage projects and prioritize next steps with diverse peer and senior teams.

  • Resourceful self-starter, works well independently as well as part of a team.

  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and handheld technology.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with retail hours, including day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays.

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing/walking around facility.

  • May involve reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, depth perception and color vision.

  • Frequent use of computers and other technology necessary to perform job duties, including handheld electronic equipment.

  • Frequently lift/move up to 50lbs.
