Job Description:

Alabama State University, Office of Institutional Effectiveness, invites applications to fill the position of Assessment Specialist. The successful candidate will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Review assessment plans for non-instructional units and provide feedback on accuracy of reports.

  • Conduct an annual audit of assessment reports using institutional developed rubric.

  • Establish a document repository for assigned assessment reports.

  • Assist in data collection of services provided by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness service areas.

  • Provide project support by researching and gathering information needed to complete final reports.

  • Maintain accurate records of services provided to campus constituents (training and development, consultations, technical support, resource administration, and research).

  • Create and disseminate informative planning, assessment and evaluation brochures and resources to the campus community.

  • Participate in the review of departmental policies and procedures.

  • Participate in local, state, regional, and national professional associations, conferences and committees as appropriate.

  • Prepare correspondence, memoranda, reports and forms.

  • Assist with maintaining the unit's website.

  • Responsible for the development of IE quarterly and annual reports.

  • Provides support with the launch and implementation of the institution's strategic plan.

  • Assist with preparing presentations and assisting in setup or facility preparations

  • Assist with special projects assigned by the Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) with at least three years of experience working in higher education. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and desktop publishing software such as Adobe Creative Cloud. Knowledge and experience working with databases. Ability to analyze data and assist in preparation of presentations and reports. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.

Pearson Senior Assessment Specialists use their subject matter expertise to thoughtfully engage students in real world assessment of content. * Develop and review test items and stimuli, including multiple choice, technology enhanced, extended response, cluster sets, performance-based tasks, and simulations for students with cognitive disabilities across multiple content areas and grade levels for large-scale alternate assessments * Generate and implement asset specifications, item development plans, test blueprints, test designs, and other ancillary documents * Develop items and assessments based on accessibility considerations * Select, assign, manage, and train item/passage writers and educators to develop items based on standards, cognitive complexity, and item development best practices * Facilitate and support customer meetings and provide content and assessment expertise * Facilitate committee/client meetings related to asset and data review, test construction, and review of composed test forms * Participate in committee/client meetings related to achievement-level descriptors, standard setting, and technical advisory committees * Convey assessment information to customers (e.g., review and judge assets, asset quality, content standards, content limits, and constructed tests in order to achieve assessment goals) * Contribute to proposal solutions through drafting test designs and authoring text * Lead teams of Assessment Specialists in the design and implementation of high-stakes assessment programs * Work closely with test development managers, other content developers, psychometricians, and other Pearson groups * Perform other duties as assigned * Some travel required The anticipated starting salary range for Colorado-based candidates expressing interest in this position is $70K-$78K. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program. Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Education or related field with teaching certification in special education required; Master's degree is desired * At least five years teaching experience as an elementary or secondary teacher including experience working with special education students required * Expert knowledge of special education, including national trends and regulations, and professional knowledge of alternate assessments required * Must have experience working with students in inclusion or resource settings, and experience with modifying curriculum for students with cognitive disabilities.
