Start Date: July 8, 2024

Type: Full-time position. Work hours are generally 8:15 am- 4:45 pm. Flexibility in the work schedule is expected due to the nature of working in a start-up environment. Candidates should have the flexibility to travel, and work in the evenings, and on the weekends, as needed. The schedule will be adjusted to accommodate after-hours assignments.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Assistant Principal- Academic, and Coordinator of Special Populations. The Assessment Specialist serves as a key member of the Campus Leadership Team, Coordinates and manages the Texas student assessment program and local assessments to meet student and campus needs. Responsible for all aspects of campus testing programs including the planning, training, communication, organization, materials management, security and administration of state and local testing, norm-referenced, and advanced placement testing.  Analyzes data as it relates to the campus, individual student achievement and the improvement of instruction. 

Instructional Leadership

  • Serves as the Campus Testing Coordinator and coordinates the planning and administration of the statewide assessment programs (STAAR, EOC, TELPAS, and all retests), including training of campus test administrators, ordering materials, preparing testing rooms and test booklets, verifying program coding and answer documents, managing online testing sessions and maintaining proper documentation.
  • Works cooperatively with campus leadership to develop plans and logistics of all aspects of campus assessment programs.
  • Stays current in testing procedures and requirements by attending regional training.
  • Serves as the site coordinator for AP, SAT, PSAT, ACT.
  • Serves as the campus coordinator for all local assessments including universal screeners, benchmarks, etc.
  • Responsible for receipt, proper use, and return of all testing materials according to state and district guidelines.
  • Delivers training and provides technical support related to testing requirements for campus staff including test administrators.
  • Ensures that appropriate testing procedures are in place and carried out according to state law and district requirements.
  • On test days, oversees and monitors the secure administration of assessments and responds promptly to needs and issues if/when they arise.
  • Compiles testing history on newly enrolled students and shares with campus leadership team and teachers as students enroll.
  • Maintains complete and accurate listings of all students needing optional testing procedures and accommodations through collaboration with Special Education, 504, Dyslexia, LPAC through conversation with Special Populations Coordinator.
  • Oversees the receipt, distribution, proper filing, and storage of student test results and campus reports.
  • Work with Intervention Specialists to identify students failing sections of STAAR or EOC.
  • Assists in planning and implementation of systems to manage, report, and communicate assessment data to impact instruction.
  • Communicates with parents and students regarding remediation and retesting opportunities.

Professional Development

  • Conduct professional development on testing procedures, accommodations, and updates for universal screeners, benchmarks, and state assessments.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Additionally, for this position, we’re looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:

Education / Certification:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, Master’s Degree preferred.
  2. Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  3. Valid subject matter certificate.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Knowledge of secondary assessment programs.
  2. Exemplary planning and multi-tasking abilities.
  3. Ability to evaluate program effectiveness; program compliance.
  4. Ability to coordinate campus functions as related to the testing program.
  5. Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
  6. Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with personnel who are involved with the testing program.

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Three years of teaching experience in appropriate subject matter.
  2. Prior campus test coordinator experience
  3. Strong project and time management skills; ability to effectively backward plan, juggle multiple priorities with great attention to, detail, and deliver consistent and timely results
  4. Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of operational excellence
  5. Strong learning orientation and desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  6. Successful criminal background check required

Academy of Visual and Performing Arts’ compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the PK-12 charter market to ensure equity across our institution. The salary for this role is $65,000-$70,000 annually. AVPA is committed to internal pay equity throughout our organization.
