ABB is seeking Assembler III for its Richmond, Virginia location. Under the direction of production supervision, the Production Assembler III builds the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost, meeting company production standards, and customer specifications and delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Assemble products according to Bill of Material ensuring the proper parts, components, revisions of parts, and documentation are included.
Determine wire routing, cut, strip, label, crimp and terminate wire and secure bundles in accordance with engineering documentation.
Layout cabinets, determining locations of components, wire and duct runs.
Select proper hardware, and as necessary, drill, tap, punch, cut to mount components in cabinets and on panels.
Continually monitor quality of parts used in the assembly process.
Check sub assemblies and final assemblies for completeness and visible damage, ensuring conformance with quality standards.
Perform operator based testing per procedures. Download software in AC and DC Drives in accordance with engineering documentation.
Interface with engineering departments to accurately communicate information.
Recommend changes to ensure continuous, ongoing, improvement of methods, processes, and productivity, while reducing costs.
Assist in the training of other employees, addressing and resolving inquiries and problems.
Perform material handling activities, moving cabinets, carts, skids, wire spools, and floor stock.
Ensure the completion and maintenance of all required paperwork, records, documentation, reject tickets reporting, etc.
Review assembly processes and methods and recommend the continuous, on going improvement of productivity and quality while reducing costs.
Participate actively in team meetings and group discussions.
Follow and comply with all safety and housekeeping rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
Requires four (4) years of High School or equivalent and Two (2) to Three (3) years of related experience; OR Four to six years of progressively responsible related experience; OR a combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend assembly instructions, electrical diagrams, wire tables, bills of materials, assembly drawings, schematics, and procedure manuals.
Ability to delegate work assignments and communicate one on one with other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
