POSITION: Aspire Teacher

  • ESOL

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for preparing lesson plans and instructing Aspire ESOL students following the program/course goals and objectives that are supportive of the department's mission to serve its customers. Responsibilities include monitoring, collecting, and evaluating student performance and progress toward program/course goals and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.

  • Experience in Adult and Community Education.

  • Ohio Department of Education

  • Hold a valid Teacher License, Substitute License or Adult Education Permit.
  • ESOL Credential or related.

  • Must be available to work during weekdays including evenings.

  • Must pass criminal background checks, be free from communicable disease.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Instruct students in the use of technology that is supportive of the program/course goals

  • Assume responsibility for student retention and progress

  • Prepare ESOL students to be able to communicate with employers, teachers and the community

  • Assist in curriculum planning, development, selection and utilization of instructional materials

  • Participate in program in-service education and staff training

  • Employ appropriate procedures in establishing a proper classroom environment

  • Assist department staff in developing a team approach for providing services

  • Increase awareness of other available adult and community education programs

  • Serve as a site liaison with community facilities and civic organizations

  • Assist with program promotion and student recruitment/Aspire orientations

  • Monitor classroom compliance with Federal and State program regulations

  • Monitor record-keeping & report Aspire student attendance in OneDrive/GoogleSheets

  • Assist with all classroom placements, transfers, and scheduling

  • Provide classroom or individual instruction based on student needs (diagnostic testing and learning screenings) and student goals

  • Perform other duties as assigned

OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • To serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

  • To help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures, building policies and procedures, public relations, and state and federal reporting.

Ability to: Interpret policies and procedures, follow instructions, communicate effectively, maintain files and reports, collect data; schedule; and lift moderate amounts of weight.

Skill in: Basic math, English and communications.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Customary office equipment.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Occasional: Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non - prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
