The Sewa International, Inc proposes to have 31 AmeriCorps members with 18 members who will serve as Supplementary Intervention Specialists (SIS) for children, ages 7-11 (2nd to 5th Grade) in 3 Sewa ASPIRE After-school programs on campuses in the Newark unified district. At the end of the first program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for serving 310 individuals with an outcome of 248 individuals reporting increased academic performance.
Also 6 members will serve as Community liaisons and 7 members will work on volunteer engagement and setup and expansion of program in Santa Clara county. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here.
Member Duties : AmeriCorps Members serving as COMMUNITY LIAISONS will reach out to children and their families to identify social welfare and acculturation issues; provide access to essential resources, services and programs; encourage communication with children's schools; and cultivate relationships with area agencies, organizations and businesses to support community well-being. Supplementary intervention at the after-school programs, together with the Community Liaison support will contribute to the evolution of educated, productive and gainfully employed citizens while helping entire families to acculturate, improve quality of life, and progress socially.
