This is an afternoon shift with shift differential.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Production / Machining
Generate optics to the required specifications for final polishing.
Polish and MRF optics to meet all required specifications as shown on the drawing.
All optics must be handled in proper manner as to prevent damage to the parts.
Understand and utilize the correct machine setup, selection of tools, and CNC program adjustment in order to produce the required optic.
Responsible for controlling and verifying critical dimensions of finished components (i.e. center thickness, wedge, surface figure, surface finish, roughness, etc). Must be knowledgeable in the metrology for measuring plano, spherical and aspheric optics. Parts are routinely measured and documented to guarantee that all parts produced meet specification.
Responsible for cleaning and inspecting optics to the customer's requirements.
Process notes are maintained in a log book in order to record key manufacturing parameters and issues.
Log book notes and verbal communication between shifts is detailed and accurate.
Production activities are wanded accurately. Quality documentation is completed as required and machine maintenance and incident reports are completed when necessary.
The operator must be able to work independently to solve minor problems. Where appropriate the nature and solution to the problem should be reported to the supervisor
Housekeeping / Maintenance
All areas are maintained in an organized and tidy manner.
Ensure all equipment is maintained based on a daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedule.
Maintenance requirements and machine or utility anomalies are reported promptly to engineering and maintenance.
Teamwork / Management Support
Promote a positive attitude within the workplace consistent with company and departmental goals.
Encourage, promote and enforce all safety standards and procedures.
Production details must be communicated effectively to eliminate problems at shift changeovers. Management to be notified of any personnel, production, machine or utility problems.
Special Activities
Education & Experience
High School Graduate or equivalent
Competent at shop math and algebra skills
Skills
Good mechanical problem solving skills
Well developed communication and organizational skills
Ability to handle diverse, detailed tasks
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to adjust to daily work requirements
Knowledgeable at reading drawings
Must be both team-oriented and self-motivated
Must be proficient in the manufacture and metrology of fused silica optics. Including, but not limited to plano, spherical, and aspheric lenses
Working Conditions
Laboratory environment involving the use of assorted equipment (e.g., CNC generating and polishing machines, metrology instrumentation, ultrasonic cleaners, hand tools, etc.), as well as solvents and solutions used to clean equipment and optics.
Light chemicals for cleaning and cutting fluids used in the daily work environment. Acetone, Acetic Acid, IPA, Polishing compounds and semi-synthetic cutting fluids.
Physical Requirements
Light lifting less than 20 pounds.

Safety Requirements
Gowns and hair nets are provided and required when in the work area.
Dedicated footwear is provided and required when in the work area.
Gloves are provided and required when handling parts and chemicals.
All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.
