Asphalt Plant Loader Operator

Position Overview:

The Asphalt Plant Operator is responsible for overseeing the production of asphalt at an asphalt plant. Their primary role involves operating and maintaining the equipment used in the production process to ensure the efficient and safe manufacturing of asphalt materials. The position's top responsibilities are safety, efficient production, proactive maintenance, and healthy financial management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and control the machinery and equipment in the asphalt plant, including mixers, conveyors, and storage silos, to produce asphalt according to specified mix designs.

  • Monitor the production process to ensure that the asphalt meets the required quality standards. This may involve conducting regular tests on the asphalt mixture to check for factors such as temperature, consistency, and composition.

  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on plant equipment to identify and address potential issues before they cause downtime. This includes lubricating parts, replacing worn components, and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.

  • Coordinate with the production team to ensure that production targets are met. Adjust production parameters as needed to optimize efficiency and output.

  • Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures to create a safe working environment. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, following safety protocols, and participating in safety training.

  • Identify and resolve operational issues promptly to minimize downtime. This may involve diagnosing equipment malfunctions, making adjustments, and performing repairs as necessary.

  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, equipment maintenance, and inventory levels. This documentation is important for quality control, regulatory compliance, and future reference.

  • Work closely with other plant operators, production staff, and management to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations. Communicate effectively to address any issues and implement process improvements.

  • Stay informed about and comply with environmental regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices related to asphalt production.

  • Overall, the Asphalt Plant Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the consistent and high-quality production of asphalt materials while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Requirements:

  • Over 18 years of age.

  • Eligible to work in the United States.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Complete and pass pre-employment testing, including a drug screen and physical.

  • College degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of three years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, total cost, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, angles, total quantities, and volume.

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math, trigonometry, and geometry.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to communicate clear and concise instructions in a professional manner.

Physical Aspects:

  • Employee will sit, walk and climb.

  • Occasionally required to sit while in company vehicle or office.

  • Must be able to walk comfortably up to a mile daily.

  • Frequently will be required to push/pull and climb ladders no greater than 20ft. at a time.

  • Requires balance and equilibrium when climbing ladders; walking catwalks or staircases in elevated areas up to 60ft. in evaluation.

  • Requires use of feet for repetitive movements such as driving, walking, climbing stairway and ladders.

  • Frequently will be required to travel catwalks no less than 10 degrees inclined and no greater than 20 degrees inclined at varying distances less than 200ft. occasionally, up to 800ft. frequently and 2,500ft. occasionally.

  • Frequently will be required to climb staircases up to 60ft. in elevation.

  • Frequently required to reach above shoulders to climb ladders and occasionally standing.

  • Light to medium level work; exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

  • Regularly requires use of both hands for grasping and fine manipulations for repetitive motions.

  • Constantly required to hear sounds and have clarity of near, far, and peripheral sight with depth perception.

Working Conditions:

  • Will occasionally be exposed to:

  • Work in high, precarious places

  • Fumes or airborne particles

  • Toxic or caustic chemicals

  • Extreme cold and heat (non-weather)

  • Risk of electrical shock

  • Constant Vibration

  • Will frequently be exposed to:

  • Wet or humid conditions

  • Work near moving mechanical parts

  • Outdoor weather conditions

  • Loud noise levels
