The Aspen High School seeks a Library Media Specialist (LMS).

Position Title: Library Media Specialist (LMS)

Department: Aspen High School

Reports to: Building Supervisor

Classification: Certified Full-time Exempt

Contract Period: 9 Month (185) days with some variance depending on the year)

Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule

I: Position Summary

  • Works with teachers to help them embed learning skills, technology literacy, equity learning experiences, media literacy, and more.

  • Works with administration as collaborative peers to provide leadership and meaningful learning experiences for students, staff, and community

  • Teaches research/ digital citizenship /media literacy skills to help students utilize information technology in order to responsibly engage in their global community

  • Encourages and empowers students to become increasingly self-directed as they create digital products of their learning that engage them in critical thinking, collaboration, and authentic real-world problem-solving

  • Builds and manages a diverse collection in multiple formats that reflects a wide variety of viewpoints

  • Advocates for and implements technology that will level the playing field for all students and families in their community

  • Embeds meaningful integration of digital literacy (technology, digital citizenship and more) into learning.

  • Provides access to student self-selection of wide and diverse reading collections in a variety of formats

  • Helps provide foundational reading skills to help students become better readers

  • Provides teachers with and trains them about vetted online and in-person resources to promote literacy skills

Inspires and supports the reading lives of both students and teachers

II: Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organizes library materials for effective and efficient utilization, helping maintain a facility that is conducive to learning

  • Navigates circulation management, book processing, cataloging, and report generation through Destiny

  • Using best library practices updates the library collection through additions and weeding of materials

  • Possess knowledge of qualitative and quantitative ranges of text complexity

  • Manage the budget and ordering for books, databases, resources, and supplies

  • Create partnerships by attending grade level/department meetings, serving on the school's leadership team, and participating in other committees such as technology

  • Coordinate IB Extended Essay work with IB students and IB Coordinator to research and develop essays; and support IB students and teachers with IA research sessions

  • Coordinate with and/or teach Freshman Seminar to introduce research skills and a research component to that course

  • Supervise the learning space: Tech Lab, Printshop, Creator Lab, Chromebook management

  • Manage the duties of volunteers in the media center

  • Share with the learning community collaboratively developed and up-to-date policies concerning materials selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy, and acceptable use

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Manage oneself (organized, prepared, and punctual, manages resources, meets deadlines, follows through on commitments, demonstrates appropriate physical appearance relative to job and environmental expectations) in a manner that enhances public education

  • Develop and maintain rapport and effective relationships with children and adults contacted in the course of work by using courtesy, diplomacy, collaboration, cooperation, support, and professional conduct

  • Demonstrate professionalism, handling disagreements and conflicts in a diplomatic manner, and contributing to a positive work/learning environment

  • Demonstrate flexibility with regard to interruptions and changing conditions

  • Work efficiently to complete tasks with limited supervision and to meet deadlines

  • Observe all district policies and procedures

  • Observe all general safety rules.

IV: Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Significant knowledge of GSuite for Education, computer systems, and software

  • Must have Colorado Professional teacher license & must have or be eligible to obtain a Teacher Librarian Endorsement

V: Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters of Library and Information Science highly recommended

  • High School Teaching Experience

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification

VI: Work Environment

  • Office environment; exposure to computer screens

  • Mostly clean and comfortable surroundings

VII: Essential Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs., bending, squatting, standing, reaching, sitting, walking, and stooping, occasional climbing, and repetitive motion

Position Summary This educator motivates students to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles, develop skills in the scientific method of problem-solving, and enhance transferable analytical decision-making skills. The high school science teacher develops student awareness of the role of science in national environmental, economic, and social progress.
