Summary

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Examiner is responsible for administering knowledge and skill tests for Commercial Driver License applicants from the general public and city, county, and state agencies. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Administers the pre-trip inspection, basic control skills, and a road test. Administers knowledge tests required for CDL (general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicle, hazardous materials, tanker, double and triples, passenger, school bus) by utilizing automated testing computer system or written tests.

Schedules appointments for CDL skill tests by telephone, fax machine, in person, or by e-mail. Serves as ASP Driver's License Examiners as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of state and federal driver's license laws. Knowledge of federal and state laws on commercial driver's license (Title 49 CFR). Ability to administer CDL skill tests.

Ability to mount and dismount commercial motor vehicles. Ability to review vehicle related documentation on both commercial motor vehicles (verify Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) and non-commercial vehicles. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain files. Ability to calculate scores from CDL knowledge and skill test and transfer them to appropriate forms.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience working with the general public as a driving instructor or related field. Must possess a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License with at least one year of driving experience in a commercial motor vehicle (tractor trailer truck). Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. Position Information Class Code: A070C Grade: GS08 FLSA Status: NON-EXEMPT Salary Range: $45,010.00 - $65,265.00 Summary The Bank Examiner is responsible for performing entry level financial examinations of banks or other financial institutions and analyzing and interpreting financial data. This position is governed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Functions Receives in-house training on accounting principles and computer usage, on-site training rotating through operations of an actual bank, and Education Foundation of State Bank Supervisor's school training, in order to acquire skill in bank examination. Reviews previous reports and bank statements and communicates with bank management and employees to become familiar with bank's daily operations in preparation for the examination. Assists other examiners in compiling data and verifying proper internal control and segregation of duties within a financial institution. Balances various accounts, including savings, demand deposit, certificate of deposit, securities journal, stockholders ledgers, and certificates to bank's general ledger. Compiles data collected and verified into an organized format for report of examination. Enters report pages into computer for storage and proofs printout for data entry errors. Learns terminology and mechanical aspects of examinations and report preparation. Examines internally prepared statements and supplemental schedules of bank assets and capital. Performs other duties as assigned. SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS Attendance at schools conducted by the Education Foundation of State Bank Supervisors and frequent in-state overnight travel are required.
