Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. It is the premiere health care organization for key areas such as Surgery, Cardiology, Women's Health, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal and Mental Health Services.
Checks work product for accuracy and adherence to quality/CQI monitors. Prepares quality assurance/CQI mandated statistical summaries required by institution/state and regulatory agencies.
Supervises workforce and staffing of histology section of Pathology. Recommends hiring, termination and promotion for subordinates; appraises staff performance annually and ongoing throughout year. Monitors adherence to policies and procedures.
Under general supervision, supervises and coordinates/monitors the daily activities and functions of the Histology Laboratory. Oversees timely processing of specimens and microscopic slides.
Develops operational and administrative policies and procedures and quality assurance/CQI standards; recommends improvements to increase productivity and efficiency; monitors area compliance with quality/CQI monitors. Updates policy and procedure manuals. Develops and monitors operating and capital budgets; ensures expenditures and overtime usage remain within budgetary parameters.
Supervises maintenance of supplies, including reagents, routine equipment, and office supplies. Actively participates in planning/acquisition of major equipment purchases. Coordinates regulatory audits by private/governmental agencies (e.g., JCAHO, NYSDOH).
Ensures ongoing effective operation of histology laboratory equipment; coordinates computerization and upgrade of area systems; implements system and trains section staff; maintains external service contacts with vendors
May lecture physicians, nurses and clinicians on histology techniques. Trains and orients new and existing staff in operation of equipment.
Conducts in-service lectures as required. Maintains state-of-the art knowledge of histology techniques
Performs related duties as assigned or required professionally.
1.A Masters Degree in Art or Science with a specialization in Hospital Administration, Health Care Administration, Administrative Medicine or in Public Health when conferred for a program in hospital administration from an approved college or university; and,
2.Four years of administrative experience and background at responsible management and administrative levels; or,
3.An equivalent combination of training, educational background and experience in related fields and educational disciplines; and,
4.Knowledge of fundamentals of hospital organization, administration and standards, regulations and laws applicable to hospital operations. Knowledge of principles of business and personnel administration, management functions and support service functions and ability to direct and supervise personnel.
