Special Education Classroom Paraprofessional Autism Spectrum Disorder Paraprofessional ASD Center Based LOCATION: Dodson Elementary School HOURS: 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday 8:30am

  • 4:30pm JOB GOAL: Works in a center based autistic classroom with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, classroom teacher, or special education support personnel in the implementation of instructional programs, technology, and management of behavior of students with Autism.

    M INI M U M QUALIFICATIONS : High school graduate or equivalent. Demonstrate ability to work with parents, students and support personnel. Good communication skills.

    Good attendance record. Good organization skills. Ability to be self-directed.

    Ability to engage in problem identification and solving. Experience working with children with autism preferred. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Assigned to work in various general and special education classrooms with student(s) with Autism supporting entire classroom or assisting a specific student with Autism. Functions under the direct supervision of special education teacher and has contact with special education professions in developing work assignments, job responsibilities, and services to the student. Performs those health care, instructional or other related assignments developed by a special education professional specific to the student.

    Assists the special education classroom teacher, special education support personnel in the implementation of health care, instructional programs and the management of aggressive student behavior. Operates equipment used in the special education program for the production of printed or other audio-visual instructional materials; including computer technology and computer programs. Works collaboratively with special education professionals to help modify assignments to fit student needs.

    Performs other tasks as directed and supervised by other special education professionals, including sensory activities, oral motor activities and administering medication. Assists the special education teacher and support personnel to manage aggressive behavior and implement behavior plans for students with Autism. Supports students in the ASD classroom as well as in general education activities, inclusion, lunch/eating, recess, electives, bathroom, dressing, arrival/dismissal and any other aspects of the student's day.

    Manages both behavioral and instructional logs. Monitors established goals and objections for the student. Performs other tasks as assigned that could entail toileting and feeding of a student with disabilities.

    Collects data on student(s). Medicaid recording and submission when required. Supervise students in the lunchroom, halls and outside. Provides clinic/first aid/medication support to students.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
