Job Description:

Overview:

Artward Bound is a free, four-year college pathway program in the visual arts for Boston high school students at Massachusetts College of Art & Design. Artward Bound prepares 9th-12th grade students interested in art and design with the artistic and academic skills needed for admission to and success at an art/design college or other post-secondary institution.

Position Description:

Mentors are MassArt undergraduate student employees and are a mainstay of the Artward Bound program. Mentors support classroom instruction and student activities for Artward Bound. Lead Mentors are recent MassArt graduates and worked as Artward Bound Mentors during their undergraduate years. Lead Mentors support Artward Bound students and Mentors through the development and facilitation of resources, tools, and training opportunities. The Lead Mentors will continue to be leaders in providing student support Artward Bound classes, as well as being the lead communicator and liaisons between the Mentors and Admin/Teaching Teams. They will facilitate meetings that focus on Mentor development and support.

Responsibilities:

• Lead daily debriefs and weekly meetings with Mentor Team focused on addressing issues and conflicts and developing skills in student support

• Communicate events, reminders, updates, program information, and deadlines to Mentors

• Communicate and document Mentor and student needs with Artward Bound staff; Document and communicate any incidents as they arise

• Develop resources, tools, and training opportunities for Mentors

• Participate in Staff Meetings and other professional development opportunities

• Assist in administrative needs for the Artward Bound program

• Continue to provide classroom and student support during Instructor-led classes; Serve as a model for mentoring

• Alongside other Artward Bound staff, chaperone Artward Bound students during unstructured social time and field trips

Schedule & Important Dates:

• Virtual Orientation & Training for Instructors & Lead Mentors: Wednesday June 5, 3-7p

• From July 8 - August 16, 2024, Lead Mentors will be scheduled to work 9a-5p, Monday-Friday. Lead Mentors will have a 30 minute unpaid lunch break and 2 15-minute paid breaks throughout the day. Additional hours may be scheduled in the months of June and August to support pre-program planning and post-program evaluation and debrief.

• Staff Orientation & Training: Monday July 8 - Friday July 12

• Start of Artward Bound Summer Session: Monday July 15, 2024

• Summer Student Exhibition and Celebration: Thursday August 15, 2024, 4-7pm

• Staff Debrief: Friday August 16, time TBD

Salary: $20/hour

• Must have served as a Mentor as a MassArt undergraduate student

• Recommended by the Director of Artward Bound
