How You Power Our Purpose (Job Summary)

Are you passionate about nurturing young artists and unlocking their creative potential? Join us as an Arts & Humanities Instructor and embark on a journey of discovery alongside our young artists. You'll inspire and guide children aged 3-13 through captivating craft workshops, mesmerizing art and design projects, and engaging creative writing sessions.

We are looking for candidates who can work late afternoons and early evenings, specifically between 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Prepare necessary materials, supplies, and resources before each class.

  • Create lesson plans for different age groups ranging from 3-13.

  • Lead crafty classes to foster creativity and fine motor skills.

  • Conduct art and design classes for artists to enhance their artistic abilities.

  • Guide aspiring authors through creative writing workshops.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, and respect among students.

  • Provide constructive feedback and praise to motivate students and build their self-esteem.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during classes and activities.

  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about their child's progress, achievements, and upcoming projects.

  • Collaborate with other instructors and YMCA staff to coordinate schedules and events.

  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.

  • Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.

  • Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the Community Enterprise

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting.

  • Passion for arts and humanities, with a demonstrated ability to inspire creativity in young learners.

  • Patient, nurturing, and enthusiastic demeanor to create a positive learning environment.

  • CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).

  • You have a growth mindset. You quickly learn from failure and value feedback in the effort to continuously improve.

  • You are a team player. You are a team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude and you can work well with others.

  • You communicate effectively. You listen for understanding and meaning. You speak and write effectively.
