How you Will Power our Purpose (Job Summary)

As an Arts & Humanities Instructor, you'll embark on a journey of discovery alongside our young artists, unleashing their artistic brilliance through captivating craft workshops, mesmerizing art and design projects, and captivating creative writing sessions. Each week, you'll witness the awe and wonder in the eyes of our little artists as they transform simple materials into masterpieces and craft stories that come to life on paper!

You'll not only witness the transformation of their art but also the transformation within them. You'll create a nurturing space where creativity flourishes, confidence soars, and friendships blossom. You'll be the guiding light that sparks their passion, encouraging them to dare, dream, and envision a world where creativity knows no bounds.

How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Functions)

  • Prepare necessary materials, supplies, and resources before each class.

  • Create lesson plans for different age groups ranging from 4-7 to 8-14

  • Lead crafty classes for children aged 4-7 to foster creativity and fine motor skills.

  • Conduct art and design classes for artists aged 6-12 to enhance their artistic abilities.

  • Guide aspiring authors aged 6-12 and 8-14 through creative writing workshops.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, and respect among students.

  • Provide constructive feedback and praise to motivate students and build their self-esteem.

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during classes and activities.

  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about their child's progress, achievements, and upcoming projects.

  • Collaborate with other instructors and YMCA staff to coordinate schedules and events.

  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.

  • Lead by example the Y's mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.

  • Become an Ambassador of the Y's work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Community Enterprise

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting.

  • Passion for arts and humanities, with a demonstrated ability to inspire creativity in young learners.

  • Patient, nurturing, and enthusiastic demeanor to create a positive learning environment.

  • CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, talk, and occasionally lift and/or move items, including equipment, furniture and/or children.
