The Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Program planning experience

  • Arts education experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of various art practices

  • Bilingual Spanish Speaker preferred, but not required

  • BA degree in Arts or related field, or equivalent experience

The principal function of an employee in this class is to oversee recreation activities and perform specialized programming in support of an assigned program or area. Responsibilities may include supervising full and part-time, seasonal and volunteer staff; coordinating program resources and staffing; monitoring program budgets, including grants; conducting needs analysis to identify programming opportunities; developing program marketing materials; resolving complex customer service issues; preparing reports; and monitoring the utilization of program resources. Incumbents are responsible for hiring, discipline and termination procedures for full, part-time and seasonal staff.

Examples of Essential Work

  • Coordinating art programming and art education;

  • Providing public outreach and developing community partnerships;

  • Participating on technical advisory committees;

This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

  • Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. May provide supervision to temporary, seasonal and volunteer staff.

  • Receives customer inquiries and requests; addresses and resolves complex customer service issues; provides responses and promotes program offerings.

  • Develops or procures program marketing materials and promotes assigned programs within the general and business community; identifies target audiences and directs efforts to target market

  • Monitors program budgets, including grant resources and utilization; monitors supply and materials inventory; orders, purchases or facilitates the purchase of supplies, materials and equipment.

  • Manage records and information in any format, in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations and City policy, guidance and records retention schedule.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Acceptable Experience and Training

Bachelor's degree in Art, Education, Art Education, Recreation Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field and 3 years of recreation and/or programming experience in assigned area of responsibility including 2 years of supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

Depending on assignment, some positions may require:

  • Valid Driver's License and safe driving record;

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
