DESCRIPTION
The Public Art Specialist will join the collaborative Tempe Public Art team to participate in the management and oversight of public art, art in private development projects, temporary art, and maintenance of the public art collection, as well as assist with the facilitation of neighborhood art projects. This position plays a key role in the selection process for commissioning artists, the creation of outreach programs for artists, the development of artist contracts, and the facilitation of artist selection panels.
Tempe Public Art operates as a team to provide arts experiences to all sectors of the Tempe Community and beyond. The Arts Specialist must be a team player who has a skill set that allows for independent and collaborative work. Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with the public as well as with the artist community will be an asset to this position.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
Requires two (2) years of experience in administering or assisting in the implementation of visual arts programs and/or in the organization and management of arts programs. Experience in a public setting preferred.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant's full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
Requires the equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited college or university with major work in arts administration, visual arts, design, or degree related to the core functions of this position.
The term "equivalent" means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
