JOB DESCRIPTION
Salve Regina University's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance invites applicants for a full time Artist-in Residence. The successful candidate will have teaching experience and artistic practice in one or more of the following dance forms: jazz dance; a jazz-adjacent dance form including but not limited to tap or hip-hop; West African dance or a dance form of the African diaspora. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience teaching jazz studies and practice from a rooted perspective where jazz is situated within its historical and sociocultural contexts in relationship to Africanist aesthetics, jazz music, and the values and spirit inherent in the jazz language.
We seek a colleague who is committed to helping students become well rounded artists, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens within an inclusive and engaged community. The ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students across music, theatre and dance is essential. Experience collaborating with jazz musicians is a plus. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable history as a dedicated educator and a record of social consciousness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach a 3/3 load (9 credits per semester). Teaching will include two or more of the following areas: movement practice classes (West African, Hip Hop, Rhythm-Generated Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Theatrical Jazz, Commercial Dance, Tap, Social Dance, Musical Theatre Dance, and/or Modern/Contemporary), dance composition, jazz theory, dance history, dance pedagogy.
Choreograph and direct annually for department dance productions or the spring musical theatre production (to be determined annually based on the expertise of the successful candidate and the needs of the department).
Assist in advising and mentoring dance majors and minors.
Participation in Department of Music, Theatre and Dance planning, auditioning/recruitment, retention of students and additional service-related efforts as they arise.
Actively engage in the university community and culture.
Keep abreast of progress and developments in the field of dance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
An undergraduate degree and a minimum of three years teaching undergraduate students.
Preferred:
A terminal degree in dance (MFA or PhD).
Evidence of a national and/or international body of work in research and/or choreography. Ability to make cross-disciplinary connections in course content and contribute to the University's core curriculum by teaching courses that center historically marginalized perspectives and/or community-engaged learning.
