Permian Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. Permian saw significant growth in 2021 with the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc. in January 2021 and the addition of Shell's Permian acreage in December 2021. At year-end, the company held approximately 1.5 million net acres in the Permian Basin.

Net production for the Permian in 2022 was 461 MBOED.

If you are selected as the Artificial Lift Technician you will be working in the field operations with Lead Operators, SCADA Technicians and Production Foreman to obtain well optimization. This may include some of the following events, adding or taking away automation equipment, repairing & trouble shooting automation equipment, working with vendors to keep wells pumping, helping Lead Operators in day-to-day activities. You will also track daily & monthly cost and work on forecast numbers for cost tracking.

This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with the installation of artificial lift equipment (primarily rod pumping systems) and peripheral devices such as pump-off controllers, SCADA equipment, etc

  • Optimizing artificial lift performance by studying well performance, shooting fluid levels, performing dynamometer surveys, managing pump-off controllers, and working with engineering and operations personnel

  • Recognizing inefficient pumping performance, analyzing problem(s), recommending, and implementing solutions

  • Influencing equipment reliability by minimizing failures through effective designs, operation, and participation in well failure meetings

  • Assisting production department as directed by production foreman or supervisor by helping lease operators as required with artificial lift problems and/or optimization

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Valid driver's license

  • 3+ years of artificial lift experience including Gas Lift, ESP, Rod Pump, Plunger Lift etc.

  • Willing and able to work overtime occasionally, as needed

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of SCADA experience

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Understanding of well optimization theories and techniques

  • Ability to handle multiple projects

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, team building, and people development skills

  • Willingness to conduct training in a group setting

  • Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering results while maintaining a safe environment

  • Actively seeks out diverse people and organizations to collectively achieve business goals

  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
