ELEMENTARY ART EDUCATION TEACHER

JOB GOAL:

• The Art Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor Degree or Higher.

• Valid School Teaching Certificate with endorsement in art education.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Teaches knowledge and skills in the use of various media to create artwork, develop students' drawing, coloring, and painting techniques, and teach students about art history utilizing a course of study adopted by the School District and/or site.

• Works cooperatively with colleagues to plan and develop art activities that compliment core curriculum when possible.

• Creates school displays of student artwork.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the School District.

• Utilizes a variety of instructional skills and methods; vary instructional modes to accommodate student needs, interests, learning style, and ability levels; provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students.

• Maintains school standards of pupil behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment, in cooperation with the school administration.

• Selects and recommends requisitions for equipment and instructional supplies; instructs students in proper care and use of materials and equipment; organize storage areas and control use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.

• Assess each student's progress in art, skills and knowledge; prepare, document and communicate progress reports to students, parents, and school administration.

• Perform basic student attendance accounting and maintain and submit upon request, accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

• Prepare and maintain lesson plans with identified learning objectives.

• Attend and participate in staff and district meetings as assigned, as well as committee meetings.

• Other duties as assigned by Building Principal

• The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping, and lifting.

• The employee must be able to use a variety of instructional materials in the classroom.

• The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects.

• The employee must use keyboards, tools, and other controls.

• The employee must sit and stand for long periods.

• The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.

EVALUATION: Annual SALARY: Commensurate with Teaching Contract Salary Schedule
