Harris County is the third largest county in the United States with more than 4.7 million residents. There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county's government.

About Precinct One

Precinct One, which largely overlaps with the City of Houston, is a diverse, urban precinct. With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One covers 363 square miles. Precinct One's multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian and 1 percent other.

Precinct One stretches south to the Brazoria County line and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct's territory includes a large section of downtown Houston, including the Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, and Minute Maid Park. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex, the renowned Texas Medical Center, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston's main and downtown campuses and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One maintains more than 20 parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.

About the Communications Team

As part of the Precinct One Communications Team, you'll be on the frontlines of the important policy issues facing our community and nation. You'll work alongside an innovative team focused on serving our constituents and advancing key policy issues through effective and persuasive content, and strategic and savvy media strategies. We work every day to build consensus for policies that advance racial, social and economic equity, primarily in the areas of affordable and quality health care, criminal justice reform, economic equity and opportunity, voting rights, affordable housing, and environmental and climate justice.

About the HCP1 Project Coordinator

The Art Project Coordinator willhave a unique opportunity to manage new and existing art projects in Precinct One. As the HCP1 Project Coordinator, no two days will be the same.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing creative intersections between public art and relevant current events and policies

  • Managing existing public art projects and proposing new, innovative public art projects for consideration

  • Serving as inter-departmental liaison for public art projects involving Precinct One divisions

  • Providing information and assistance to the Communications team to develop promotional materials regarding exhibitions and programs including content for the Precinct website and social media platforms

  • Proposing and securing locations for proposed public art

  • Assisting artists with logistics and material needs to complete projects in timely manner

  • Planning for maintenance and upkeep of past and future public art projects

  • Maintaining a visible role in the community including the maintenance of relationships with artists, galleries, collectors, donors, and members of the general public

  • Coordinating logistics for art-related events and programs in collaboration with other Precinct One divisions

  • Managing and facilitating public art tours for constituents and stakeholders.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you will bring to Precinct One

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts Administration, Fine Arts, Visual or Performing Arts, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field of study

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for one another

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience in arts administration or related public art programming, including artist procurement and artist contracting

  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications to include Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe.

License:

  • Valid driver's license (Texas upon hire) and a good driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Superior organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments on a quick turnaround in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Good marketing sense.

  • Superior management and motivational ability.

  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends

Work Environment:

  • Will generally perform duties in an office, though sometimes at external event locations

  • Occasional travel within Harris County
