Art Instructor

Cedars of Marinprovides day programs and residential opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. Cedars first opened its doors in 1919, and for more than a century our award winning person-centered programs and services have connected individuals with the best expression of themselves.

Cedars Fine Art Studios (FAS)provides a creative workspace, art instruction, and professional mentorship for individual artists.

Cedars is seeking an Art Instructor to teach small classes and guide Cedars artists in sculpture, fine art (drawing, painting), bookmaking, fabric arts, wearable art, and upcycled art. The Instructor will identify the unique strengths and preferences of each artist and help them develop their skills to create gallery-ready portfolios. Cedars artists demonstrate and sell their work at four yearly shows at Artist Within – A Cedars Gallery located in downtown San Anselmo, where they receive 50% of the proceeds for each piece sold.

This position is 3-4 days per week, including Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (candidate's choice) from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The rate of pay is $21/hour. This work is fun, creative, fulfilling and challenging!

Requirements

• A college degree in Art or commensurate experience as a producing artist.
• Teaching/instructional experience is required.
• Jewelry making experience is a big plus.
• The ability to work well as a group leader and as part of a team of leaders.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Patience, compassion and a strong desire to see others succeed.
• The flexibility to handle varied assignments and a willingness to pitch-in.
• Ability to pass an employment physical including a TB test, and to meet the physical requirements of the job.
• A valid DMV driver's license, a minimum of 3 years of driving experience, and a willingness to drive a passenger van.
• CPR and First Aid certifications or the willingness to acquire both.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check with the FBI and DOJ.
• An upbeat, positive attitude and good sense of humor are appreciated.
