JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: JROTC Instructor

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

FUNDING SOURCE: Local

REPORTS TO: Campus Principal

PAY GRADE: Teacher Salary (187 days) + up tp 30 Days

DEPARTMENT: Campus

DATE REVISED: February 2022

This position is eligible for a Chapter 21 contract.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Ensure on behalf of the school district and the United States Navy; the JROTC program is administered according to applicable laws and regulations and in conformance with established policies and sound principles so that each student may derive the maximum benefit from participation in the program. Work under the supervision of the Principal and Senior JROTC Instructor in the execution and administration of the ROTC program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of subject assigned

  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Minimum Experience:

  • Retired Military Enlisted

  • Proof of Certification as a JROTC instructor

  • 20 years or more military experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Strategies:

  • Serves as an instructor for the JROTC unit.

  • Monitors instructional and managerial processes to ensure that JROTC program activities are producing desired outcomes.

  • Obtains and affords his assistant(s) appropriate time, resources, and materials to accomplish educational goals.

School/Organizational Climate:

  • Communicates and supports expectations that are consistent with JROTC and school objectives. Works under the supervision of the Principal and Senior JROTC Instructor.

School/Organizational Improvement:

  • Focuses activities on the accomplishment of the primary mission of the JROTC program of motivating young people to be better productive citizens.

  • Develops, maintains, and uses appropriate information systems and records required for the attainment of program goals.

Administration & Fiscal Facilities Management:

  • Assists in identifying, reviewing, and analyzing resource, facility, and equipment needs.

  • Schedules activities and secures resources needed to accomplish goals.

  • Assists in the implementation of policies established by federal law, JROTC regulation, state law, State Board of Education rules, and the local board of education with respect to the JROTC program.

  • Reports to supervisors and higher military headquarters on the status of performance and outcomes.

  • Determines funding requirements based on documented program needs.

Student Management:

  • Implements and supports JROTC, district, and campus standards and rules of conduct.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Uses information provided through assessment instruments and a professional growth plan to improve performance.

  • Participate in professional development programs, disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.

  • Participates in professional organizations.

School/Community Relations:

  • Encourages JROTC cadet participation in and support of school activities.

  • Projects a positive image to the community.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
