This opening is for an Protective Security Officer that will be located in a Federal Building in Fargo, ND. The position will begin at Part-Time and may move to Full-Time.

Essential Functions: Protective Security Officers may be asked to perform a variety of duties at the facility where they are assigned including:

  • Ensure the facility is provided with high quality security services to protect people and property.

  • Build, improve and maintain effective relationships with both client employees and guests.

  • Report safety concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances verbally and in writing.

  • Handle security issues and emergency situations according to MaxSent protocol.

  • Understand site-specific operations including manuals and post orders.

  • Greet visitors and employees in a cheerful and welcoming manner.

  • Answer questions and assist visitors and employees.

  • Remain flexible to ever changing environment; adapts well to different situations.

  • Patrol the facility on foot or in a vehicle.

  • Answer phones, greet guests and employees

  • Monitor closed circuit television systems and alarms.


  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older as required by applicable law or contractual requirements AND possess a high school diploma or GED.

  • Must meet at least ONE of the following italicized criteria:

  • 2 years of armed security experience within the last five years,

  • 2 years of military or National Guard service (active or reserve),

  • Successful completion of state certified law enforcement education and training, or

  • Successful completion of police officer's standard training courses.

  • Candidates should have prior firearms experience.

  • DHS Homeland Security Federal Protective Service Clearance preferred

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills required, verbal and written fluency in English is required.

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with the ability to work independently.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing for the purpose of public interaction and report writing.

  • Neat and professional appearance.

  • Friendly and professional demeanor.

  • Ability to provide quality customer service.

  • Ability to handle emergency situations efficiently and effectively at client site.

Facility: Sanford Medical Center Fargo Location: Fargo, ND Shift: Varies Job Schedule: Full time Weekly Hours: 40.00 Job Summary Enforces Sanford policies and procedures with all patients, visitors and staff. Patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds as assigned. Monitors conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning. Reports safety, fire hazards or security violations. Responds to all requests for assistance from employees, patients and visitors. Assists with any and all situation; i.e., problem-solving with positive outcomes. May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested. Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities. Ability to work with all age groups. Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs. Sanford security officers are expected to work in highly stressful situations in which they are to de-escalate the situation as soon as possible. All Sanford security officers are requires to maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property. The necessary skills that are required involve the following: communicate effectively with all customers, ability to write professional reports, demonstrate the physical ability to perform basic security officers functions as trained. This position may have access to areas where medications are stored in order to perform their specific job related functions. Department Details Gain diverse experience in a healthcare setting as a resources to staff and patients. This position will works a mix of 8 and 12 hour shifts totaling 80 hours in a 14 day cycle. Shift options are 6am to 2pm (or 6am to 6pm), 2 pm to 10pm, 10pm to 6am (or 6p to 6am). 12 hour shift every other Friday and Saturday either 6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. College or vocational education is preferred. Prior experience healthcare security, contract security and/or law enforcement is highly preferred. May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability dependent upon region.
