  • Provides security for Emergency Department patients, associates, and visitors; protects hospital buildings,assets, and premises.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Education/Training

  • Uniformed Baltimore City police officer.

  • Experience

  • 2 years related security experience.

  • License/Certification/Registration

  • Valid driver's license in the State of Maryland.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with restraining as needed.

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

  • Controls parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations at Emergency Room entrance of hospital.

  • Escorts visitors and personnel to parking lots and hospital buildings.

  • Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.

  • Monitors conduct of patients and visitors on hospital premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.

  • Participates in investigations. Prepares incident reports. Continues to follow up as needed to bring incident to closure.

  • Patrols hospital Emergency Department by foot to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders. Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations. Interacts with fire and law enforcement officials regarding violations occurring on the property. Makes an arrest when necessary.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel and visitors.

  • Secures patient valuables or lost and found articles; maintains logs of items received.
