Job Description

The SWAP Hub Circuits and Architectures Design and Test Capability Area is hiring a design manager to help design teams organize and to develop and maintain a library of analog, digital, and RF circuits (IP blocks) for internal and licensed external use.

Salary Range

$87,363 - $120,500 per year, DOE

Essential Duties

  • Lead the specification, architecture and development of ASU's intellectual property library in coordination with faculty

  • Develop and manage the technical roadmaps that address customer requirements within the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) unit

  • Develop unit- and system-level test plans covering a variety of operating modes and conditions

  • Devise test automation strategies and execute test plans

  • Debug complex circuit pack and system-level issues

  • Test process development and characterization

  • Develop and maintain training materials on the IP blocks which will include but are not limited to:

  • Design (schematic, layout, tapeout, pin diagrams, etc.)

  • Tapeout and post-silicon validation procedures

  • Interface with laboratory customers (e.g., students, faculty, and external entities) to ensure project goals are realized

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND ten (10) years of engineering or related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or

education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience architecting, developing, testing, debugging, and performance analysis in the optimization of HPC software

  • Circuit and system design experience

  • Hands-on experience analyzing/troubleshooting complex analog and digital circuits

  • Experience with Linux, TCP/IP networking, and Python

  • Experience working independently and efficiently towards failure analysis and mitigation approaches

  • Experience with developing and debugging FPGA code in Verilog and/or VHDL

  • Experience in designing custom PCBs with Eagle or similar systems

  • Experience with setting up, programming, and using laboratory instrumentation for PCB debug

  • Experience with C/C++, Eagle, Verilog/VHDL, LabView

  • Experience in analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in using presentation skills

  • Experience in work that requires being detail oriented, flexible, self-motivated, and the ability to troubleshoot

  • Experience writing scientific documents (e.g., patent applications and reports)

Working Environment

  • This is a first shift position 0800-1700, Monday-Friday. Occasional off shift work may be required to manage emergencies within the AEP Core.

  • Regular activities require ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at one time, manage conflict, work well in a team environment and operate independently, and communicate effectively to exchange accurate information

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts

  • Activities are performed in environmentally controlled office and laboratory settings subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, moving moderate distances to perform work functions, and operating computer and other office productivity machinery

  • For the class 100/1000 cleanroom space, it will be necessary to wear personal protective equipment including long pants, closed-toed shoes, shoe covers, a lab coat or cleanroom suit, gloves, and safety glasses

  • Some activities will entail the need for frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties
