Job Title: Area Sales Manager - Retina
Department: Domestic Sales
Reports To: Director, US Retina Sales
FLSA Status: Exempt
Annual Base: $90,000
IRIDEX Corporation is a medical device manufacturer and operates in a global regulated environment (e.g. FDA). Regulations include (but are not limited to) FDA 21 CFR 820, EN ISO 13485, and the European Medical Device Directive (MDD). Based on the position, experience in a regulated environment and the extent of working knowledge of appropriate regulations may vary.
PURPOSE OF JOB:
Performs day to day activities for maximum generation of sales in the territory. Includes demonstrations of products, follow-up, and closing of sales. Provides in-service support and on-going liaison with customers. Reports on all pertinent activities in their territory, which includes market trends and perceptions, competitive activity and opportunities/obstacles.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Generate leads through referrals, direct mail, cold calls, telemarketing and any other means necessary to maximize sales opportunities.
Follow up on leads by the home office.
Qualify leads to determine interest level; and, to prioritize travel and appointment schedules.
Conduct product demonstrations in operating rooms and physician clinics.
Follow up in a timely manner to close business.
Conduct thorough in-services to assure customer knowledge of the product's capabilities and limitations.
Report on activities in the territory as required by sales leadership on a timely basis. Including but not limited to: Salesforce reporting, market trends, competitive activity, what is working, feedback for improvement, sales reports, forecasts, inventory and other activity reports.
Supports marketing activities in the territory.
Provides expense documentation on a timely basis.
Submits sales reports, forecasts, inventory and other activity reports as required by management.
Interacts with Order Entry, Customer Service, and other departments to assure that all activities relevant to sales and to customer satisfaction are handled on a timely basis.
Performs other functions and duties as necessary to fulfill the objective of meeting sales quotas in the territory.
Travel and participate in Regional and/or National Trade Shows.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and minimum five (5) years of experience in medical/surgical devices, including disposables and capital equipment sales (preferably in ophthalmology).
Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
