The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for two Area Administrative Assistant (AAA) for the Butte and Bozeman office. This position is responsible for administering and coordinating the operations, services, and administrative systems of the Area Office; coordinating and processing area accounting and budget operations; and administering and coordinating office functions and customer support services (e.g., permitting and traveler information) for the Area Office. The position reports to the District Financial Officer and is responsible for supervision of technical and clerical staff (e.g., Payroll/Benefits Technician, Accounting Clerk, and Administrative Support).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An associate degree or two-year certificate in accounting, business administration, computers or a related field. Related fields include Public Administration, Computer Science, Construction Project Management, Contract Administration, etc.

  • 2 (two) years of experience in office management, accounting, and budget monitoring AND

  • 1 (one) year of supervision or team lead experience.

  • Alternative qualifications include: Any combination of additional related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications.

Other Information:

  • Top candidates will be invited to participate in a behavioral-based interview prior to final selection.

  • This position is a nonexempt position. Hourly rate $29.00.

  • Top candidate will select preferred working location, Butte and/or Bozeman.

  • Alternative reporting location may be considered depending on applicant pool.

  • This position belongs to the MFPE bargaining unit. Bargaining applicants will have preference. The successful candidate will receive more information about the union and the option to join the union during the onboarding process.

  • The successful candidate must pass a background check as a condition of employment.

  • Driver's license record will be verified.
